OK chaps, advice time please
I have a Garand on the way and was figuring on putting together both a US and a Brit loadout (I'll pretend the Garand is an Enfield) of some description, given the number of MP40s being sold I reckon that having some Allied gear could be handy in giving me another option in case numbers arent even. May take me a little while to get these sorted as I've already ploughed a fair bit into my Jerry gear.
I'm no stitch counter, wasn't planning on tweaking each outfit extensively to be 'correct' for every event, and reserve the right to make some choices based on price, comfort (the yanks had electrically heated vests right?) and usability rather than authenticity.
I'm starting out with no WW2 US or Brit gear in the cupboard.
Where would you look to start if you were me based on:
- the loadouts commonly used by other players (it's nice to part of the herd, safety in numbers etc)
- events in the pipeline
- likely future events (I'm thinking most are likely to be late war?)
- availability, usability and cost of gear
??
Obviously 101st airborne gear does seem to be widely available and seems to be popular with the troops so I had thought maybe I'd do something along those lines with the US stuff and Brit airborne with one of those fancy Denison smocks seems appealing too but I am an ignorant newb and therefore open to some guidance (possibly) by those in the know.
Cheers
Andy
Well first of all your garand is okay for Brit as well as US. Especially if you do Brit Airborne. Take a look at the cover of the bridge to far dvd to see what I mean. Its true that the brits did use stens and enfields primarily... but the airborne trooper on the front definately has a garand.
So, yes, denison, webbing, gaiters, beret would be a pretty good start for your brit impression.
I've put together a Brit Airborne load out for under
For a U.S. airborne look I got a pair of olive combats at the local market for a tenner. An OG jacket, probably dutch from local surplus store for a fiver, cheap far eastern copy of a U.S. belt for

is the abova picture basically bought from S&S?
IMHO If you have a garand and you want a brit loadout, go for a commando impression as these guys were issued US kit from 1943 for tha planned invasion of north africa.
Go for a British Army World War two (ww2,wwii) Uniform Windproof Camouflage Clothing suit from this guy http://www.replicaters.com/ww2britarmy.html
1937 Pattern Webbing(1X Belt, 2 X Cross Straps 2 X Mk 2 Ammunition Pouches, 1X Waterbottle and Carrior) From sabre Sales on 02392833394
You will Also need
Putees, Modern Green Commando Beret OR Modern Headover but these are all available from most Surplus stores And I think Sabre have them as well.
Thats a Quite cheep and also realistic way of putting together a Brit loadout with a garand, its also quite unique at the mo as Im the only one I know going for that.

I like that idea, plus I could always swap in denison, pair of lightweights and a different beret for the commando camo gear for those 'airborne days'.
