Thought i would see what your reaction is to being asked to cover up SS collars at military shows like we was asked today to do at Stonleigh is this a sign of things to come

In fairness mate Stoneleigh has never been mad on folk wearing kit to go shopping, its really for those on displays to wear kit as far as i can remember.

I've gone in kit once when recruiting for our re-enactment group and handing out cards etc.

I can understand why they might ask you to do that though, its probably not the thing they want on any publicity photos or customer snaps of what is really a militaria fair not a re-enactment event.

I think really the thing is to clear turning up at any event in kit regardless of what kit it is with the orgnisers. Did the event details specify no axis or no ss - many UK shows do.#

Personally i think its silly and petty of them to make you do that but on the other hand as ss re-enactors you have to be aware that you are putting yourself up or close scrutiny and many folk will find it bad taste in their eyes (im not saying it is as i obviously do 9th ss too, im just saying you have to be wary about it in public)

I agree but just seems daft when you have all that SS stuff on view, political arm bands the whole lot and to me its nice for people that has never seen german kit to get to view it,and no it just said NO POLITICAL INSIGNIA.

Yeah but it's the line between 'militaria' as a curiosity and collectable and then wearing the stuff in public that what they seem to be funny about.

Put it this way you wouldnt have got through the gate at Crich or the Brewhouse shows.

I reckon next year check in advance and potentially even do a stand?

Like even though he were invited to Crich as PBI last year we rang to check airsoft weapons were ok.

http://www.militariashows.com/militaria_policy_statement.htm

The WEARING or DISPLAY by VISITORS of ANY Form of POLITICAL Uniform INSIGNIA or BANNER is BANNED within the Exhibition Halls and Stoneleigh Showground

Took me all of 10 seconds to find that. Yes, Waffen-SS could be considered as "political uniform" - and its their event, so they can make the rules up as they want.

It wasn't just the wearing of political insignia and SS ruines that got there goat. But all stall holders got told they could not have, on show any form of German political items. Militera.net got told to cover up SS ruines he had on his stand. Sounds more like there going the same as shows on the conternant.

Anthony could have quite rightly told them where to go. Methinks someone didn't read their own bloody terms and conditions!

15. Fascist, Political and S.S. Insignia and Regalia can be sold by traders on trade stands, but must not be worn by traders, exhibitors or any member of the Diorama display groups.

I was at Stoneleigh today and noticed that some SS re-enactors had tape over their runes and thought it a bit strange. Yes the Waffen ss were more politically indoctrinated than say your regular wehrmacht soldat but would the organisers have the same objections to Russian re-enactor, probably not but this debate has been done to death on so many forums.Yes Kermit is right it's their show and they can do what they like but equally there are other militaria shows out there that allow SS re-enactors and stall holders can chose not to turn up at stoneleigh and go to other fairs instead if they feel unwelcome.

LOL - I did warn you by posting up the show rules on this forum, guess chaps don't read this forum OR the show's web site!!

The silly thing is that the people that turn up at the show are the least likely to be offended - they are enthusiasts for the period after all.

Arrrrrrrrr stop with the rules thing we did read the rules, i and the rest of the lads dont give to hoots about what people think about the SS the main issue is if this starts to happen at other events will the traders of german kit stop going cause if you carnt show it how can you sell it,or will it be like the dirty movies that was kept under the counter you have to ask.

Hehe - it's always happened at events so I suppose fairs are no different. I'm pretty sure it's not for ideological reasons but fear of potential bad press - it's easier to say NO than deal with a press storm!

Anyhoo, plenty of swastikas to be seen at the show so hiding runes is a bit :ghey:

Personally I think they should have banned Realtree camouflage which was really offensive

i just think it's a shame when they start on traders telling them what they can and can't displey, and as for upsetting anyone be in SS kit, i felt like Kate Moss outside must of had my photoe took over 50 times next to my truck. And people asking could there kids have there photo took with us. But its there event and they have the last word but like i said its a shame

It'll be interesting to see if any traders complain, as the Traders T&C's clearly state that such items can be sold there - and to make a sale, the punters have got to be able to see it!
