It is fairly easy to strip (even I can do it). Just remove the muzzle clip and undo the screws around the trigger guard and the whole assembly will lift out.

Expect to use lots and lots of wet & dry paper getting the horrible gunk off underneath the orange varnish, normal sandpaper will clog in no time. I just sat doing it for hours over several days next to a big bucket of water to clean the wet & dry in, which gradually turned gunk colour.

I stained it with Colron antique pine floor stain and finished it with Jonkers wood oil (the stuff you do beech worktops with, as we have beech worktops...). The Jonkers works much better than linseed oil even if it isn't very authentic.

Results as seen in Dadios latest K98 conversion for Cheekie Chappie (my DBoys K98 was one of the donor guns for that).

Cheers

as above, below the orange varnish is a layer of white waxy stuff that repels stain, you just have to be fairly aggressive to remove the under coat,if you find an area wont stain then re sand the area and try again.i started with 120 grit paper and worked through 240 to 600 grit to get a nice finish, again once you stain it you may see area's that show scoring from the rougher paper but you can just go over again with the finer stuff, finishing off with some worn out 600 grit is best.
i did end up re sanding and staining the last k98 because of damaging the finish in the process of the job but the early shots show the colour as described above and it was a nice colour and finish but not as shown in the last shots.
