I just got back from Madeira. Took me a while to figure out why the garden looked odd then I realised that the snow had finally melted.

Did lots of modelling with quick steel, hollowed out the rs stock and got the first couple of coats on my custom 1928 Thompson, also putting the final touches to my first impression, all ready to defend Crete!
Sorted out my Russian kit for Pavlovs next week, week and also tried out my semi-Mediterranean British loadout for Crete. A certain adjustment of the webbing was required but the woolly jumper and Hessian covered helmet look OK.
Cheers

I went to a pistol club here in Ashburton NZ, and fired off 300 rounds in 4 guns.
2 no 1911's One govt and one chrome after market.
1 no P38 ex 1970 military
1 no Luger WW1 1917 vintage
The P38 and the Luger were the best for me. The Luger empty rounds fly over your head backwards and the P38 was so smooth. I can't wait for the next trip to the rifle range....
Lt. Morris Schaffer: "Second rate punk," eh?
Major John Smith: Sorry. All I could think of on the spur of the moment.
Lt. Morris Schaffer: Thanks, that makes it even worse.
Okay, so technically it was yesterday. But oh well.
I paid a visit to Bletchley Park. Well worth a visit, and even though only about half of the site has been renovated there's plenty to see, so much I didn't see all of it. Personally it was one of the most atmospheric places I've visited. You'd walk through a door wondering if you were meant to go through it, and there was a sense of something going on that you shouldn't know about.
Paid for the S'n'S No. 4, to be released when I get my UKARA this month

finally found time to re build my bren after the abuse it suffered at it's last game(paid for by Fremsley as he borrowed it but not the people who used it and broke it, that was rather a poor show on them but very decent of Fremsly), also took the time to upgrade the wiring ,motor, smoke generator and muzzle flash led to a brighter one.

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.

Sorted out my kit for Chambois next week and spent rather too long fiddling around with different arrangements on the A-frame and chopping up the internals of the ammo pouches so I can actually get VSR magazines into them.
I also decided to break in my new British KD stuff by doing the gardening in it. It is now sweaty and covered in bits of leaves My wife was most amused, as usual.

Went to my first WW2-game this year. Hot as balls, 24-26c. Managed to play about 3h in BD before wimping out and changing into Denim trousers and Denison. Other than that, awesome, shot some jerrys, hopefully will get pics soon to show here.
Why do you always carry that umbrella?
-Bad memory. Never could remember the password. Knew no Jerry would carry one. Had to prove I was an Englishman, you see.
A bridge too far
Went to the ceremony for the dedication of a statue to Piper Bill Millin in Colleville Montgomery which I had given some money towards, it was nice to get an invite. AFRA donated some money to the project some years ago so Karl Walls was there on behalf of the association. Visited Pegasus Bridge and the Museum then shot across Normandy to the new museum behind Omaha beach. Very good it is too, some unique stuff.
Whipped along to Ste Mere Eglise and Ste Marie du Mont which, even at 18.00 with people going home were busier than the British areas at Lunch time.
Spent over €100 on books and magazines inc a very interesting volume on 'Allies in Battledress' which covers the French, Belgians, Dutch, Polish, Czechs, Norwegians and Danish uniforms based on British BD. There are some well strange variations in how it was worn to play with. Gadge will hate it.
A good day, time for a cidre.

Some time ago I posted a story about my Grandfather on D Day. I thought I'd put up a picture taken yesterday...
