Hey i am under 18 and would not be able to take part in such an event  but i was wondering if it would ever be possible or if people were intereasted in a warsaw uprising game, chances for all types of German forces, obviously priority ss, and for the poles a mix match of civillian, odd german bits of kit and a heap of other weapons. any thoughts?

sorry if this has been discussed before
:)

Wladek is your man for this. He's the resident Bi-Poler :D

I regularly play Jerry but this is one arena of WWII I'm personally a bit uncomfortable with turning into a game.

You don't need to be 18 to play WW2 - the Gunman games are open to U18s.

It's certainly a very interesting battle to study - the Poles proved they had bollocks of steel, not to mention a gift for logistics (how the hell did they manage to stockpile what they did, right under the noses of the Germans?) - but for an event, there are certain issues with it. It was by no means the "clean fight" that the battle of Arnhem was (by way of comparison), and there were some utter scum involved on the German side:

Google "Kaminski Brigade" and "Dirlewanger" for more info, and you'll see what I mean.

Bipolar? I would be angry if I wasn't crying uncontrollably...

I think it is interesting, and I think it would make a good game, and I am presently organising a series of battles based upon the different free Polish forces... So wait till you are 18 and I have a strong suspicion there may be one.

It is however a topic that requires very high levels of care, tact and attention in the planning. The Warsaw Uprising is so closely tied to Nazi atrocity that to many it could be likened to 'roleplaying the holocaust', which is a pretty abominable idea.

As my interests are as much in the area of historical memory as historical occurrence a discussion on the memory of the Warsaw Uprising would become a 2000 word essay from me (actually it is going to be a 10000 word dissertation, but that is a thought for another year).

I would argue that the one primary thing that should not be in such an event, would be the SS. German memoirs and diaries of the event are thin on the ground, but there are accounts of the Heer soldiers who wound up attached to the SS brigades literally sitting down and stopping in disgust. However the Warsaw uprising was a graphic and striking part of the much larger Operation Tempest, that provides an opportunity to look at the nature of Polish resistance, and the uprisings in which it ended, without attaching to the specific nature of the Warsaw suppression.

One thing that such a game would require is to be much more of 'living history' or 'live action roleplaying' event, rather then something based around one side shooting the other. Still even the idea would be a while away yet.

Depending on which accounts you read, it seems that some of the Luftwaffe personnel that were drawn into it were also involved in the most barbaric aspects of it, as were some of the Heer troops that were used as well

Personally, I'd have to say that running an event on this theme would not be a good idea.

As a footnote, some FG were detailed to protect other German elements from the uncontrollable nutters in the Kaminski Brigade

OK, so it is the Rising we are talking about and not the Uprising?

The Warsaw Rising and Uprising are names given to the same event. I assume the distinction here being the Ghetto Uprising in 43 and the Warsaw Uprising in 44? In which case the later.

The Rising is the event of the 1st August 1944 (currently reading Rising 44 The Battle for Warsaw by Norman Davies), the Uprising is attributed to the Ghetto Uprising in 43 (which the Stroop Report dictates which is dry but extremely interesting).

nope. Type warsaw uprising into google.

Google is giving a mixed bag of results for both, so it doesnt really matter. Lets not get into arguements over it, OK?
