And another thing - these statistics have got me thinking we could have something really brilliant like all the recent online Call of Duty clones.
You know the deal, as you play you gain really cool "experience points" and earn "achievements" which aren't gay at all; they're fantastic because they show everyone how dedicated you are and how many hours you put into playing.
So for instance, someone who just happens to be in the top 10 would get a higher ammo limit and would be allowed to have a 650 fps gun and ten bandages. This would ensure they get more kills than everyone else, but more importantly, it would encourage people to attend more events, because new players would get hammered until they've accrued enough experience points to compete....This is known as compulsion loops or something in PR speak and is a brilliant idea.
Have I just reinvented WWII airsofting? If so, this idea is patented and you saw it here first.
I dunno, I suspect such "incentives" it would have a reverse effect - penalising the new entrants and demoralising those who are out-gunned. I know this is a disincentive for me in online gaming - while upgrades are cool and encourages long term commitment and maintains the interest I also feel hopelessly bottom league, and this is for someone who is already bottom league!
No, for WW2 airsoft I like the flat playing field that doesn't have the competitive element of normal airsoft (or online gaming when the fastest reactions, the lowest ping, the lowest latency, the fastest processor and the fastest reactions make the mediocre player's experience a short-lived one).
The very fact that anyone can join in a WW2 airsoft game and get as much out of it as a veteran (and do 'better' or 'worse', is that is of any interest to you) is a huge plus and rather precious, to me at least. For me the simple and discrete medal ribbons is about as far as it ought to go - optional, pretty meaningless in any concrete sense but a symbol of game attendance, which is what it is all about.

finally got my brit kit out
on another note, hate these bloody experience points while online gaming
games should all be on a level playing field, down to the skill of the player, not how many hours he/she has racked up, thats why I some times go back playing CoD3 on the xbox ![]()
Chomley - you do know I was joking don't you?
Persistent Stats in online games is the stupidest game design choice I've ever seen - rewarding l33t players and penalising noobs - just stupid, stupid stupid.
It seems to sell lots of games though....
You missed the
emoticon Barrie, I thought you had lost the plot for a moment.
And I had horrible flashbacks of your persistent bayoneting me online and wouldn't like to see your online advantage over me played out in airsoft. ![]()

You....you....SOCIALIST. We must keep the less experienced, less well off and less connected players at the bottom of the ladder - only this way can we feel smug and superior. I'm fully endorsing the Barrienomics of laissez faire airsoft
Did Barrie mention lacy fairies?
