I have bought a M38 Fallschirmjager helmet which although is good quality has a naff paint colour (Green). Can`t resist the Normandy Camo scheme so wish to re paint it.

Has anyone know of what paint colours would be acceptable. (I know people will push the Ral colours but unless I spend a fortune on them and P&P for the spray paint, I might aswell buy a cover) I am thinking more along the lines of Spray paint that I can pick up at a DIY shop or Model shop.

I managed to find one reference to Tamyia Wooden Deck Tan for a sandy colour.

Any thoughts
:)

This might be a useful link for you, its a cross reference of Humbrol colours with many others inc the RAL equivalents

http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/p ... umbrol.htm

According to my copy of Wehrmacht Combat helmets RAL Colours used on helmets that are most relevant to your project are

RAL 6006 dark olive grey
RAL 7008 Medium grey green
RAL 7028 Dark yellow
RAL 8000 yellow brown
RAL 8017 red brown
RAL 8020 brown

FYI if you find a good colour match in Tamiya spray cans you may want to stock up. They're having supply issues as they've been deemed over the EU limits for lead content and they're not importing them to Europe for the moment, or so I've heard, this may have been an excuse from a poorly stocked model store.

krylon make a good range of spray paint's in all kind's of millitary colours, you'd have to decide for yourself on the closest shades but they are cheep and easy to find and most people spraying modern airsoft guns in como patterns use them.may be spelt crylon ,not sure .
