Nazi scientists, the fools they meddle with powers they dont understand! Project 766 is clearly a zombie resonator that turns the living into fearless automatons to feed the manpower needs of the reich. Clearly the last batch of test subjects were the last guard detail.
Now Allied troops have been lured to the area to become the next test subjects. Only question that remains is are the last batch of test subjects still out in the woods, I think we better set a guard detail at night

No my friend the rumour mill at luftwaffe HQ has two speculations doing the rounds:
1) the scientits secluded in the forests are working on foodstuff to be dropped by long range Lufty jets into america where they will be distributed by spies disguised as street food sellers. the high starch content and deep fried nataure of these snacks will force the american capitalists into a debauched feed frenzy that will give them no taste for war! They have called these snacks the Mais-hund.
2) secondly the overpowering stench is of the chemicals being used to try and create the ultimate colour for Herman Goring's new uniform! apparently powder blue isnt working this season
Well thats what I have heard anyway....
