I plan on taking a site visit to Hay in the next 6-8 weeks. Pinning Ed down ot a date has been hard, and as it's private farmland we need an invite.
Anyway the below from Ed yesterday , so once i have map and authority We can plan a trip .
Hello fella,
Sorry about the delay. Work has been hectic so hardly been online. No problem with a site visit. Not sure when though. I will check with the landowner to see if he is ok with you going without me. I doubt i can get down there before Christmas at the moment.
He won't be able to show you round obviously but if he is ok with going down there alone then I can supply a map with the boundary areas.
Will let you know asap.
Ed

I'm ok for pretty much all those dates.
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Ok I'll ask for the 8/9th .Sooner the better me thinks

Groovy.
Some nice pubs round there. Might be worth doing the site visit then grabbing lunch somewhere to discuss.
Ok I've spoken to Jon Harrington ......and he's a lil bit loopy. Offered to hire canoes so Hess could paddle his way to Hay on Wye/ safety sorta loopy. & No I didn't mention guns, German uniforms, or PLI in the conversation. Methinks he spends a lot of time on his own .
Anyway , we are set for the 9th , I'll have to confirm it on the 4/5th so suggest keep both days clear if you can in case we have to switch to the Saturday er because of his meds or sommit.
Super, should be fun!
Would you like me to bring my canoe so you can have a practice paddle ?
I've had a go at finding the exact site and not been able to pinpoint it but it appears to be off a left hand turning just south of Llanigon.
This is 2hrs 45mins from me.
My route would be Derby - Cannock then pick up the M6/M5 south past Walsall/Wednesbury, West Brom, Halesowen - then off M6M5 at Worcester onto the A4440 then A4103 then A438 then B4350. Gah, I never realised what a pig this would be to get to!
Anyhoo, seeing as takes me past Walsall and Halesowen would it make sense to go to Pete's, then to Stephen's? It would save me driving five and a half hours and 250 miles.
That's a bit of a weird route. If you're looking to go near Halesowen I'd suggest the Kidderminster, Tenbury and Leominster option. It's more direct and the roads and generally pretty good.
I'm happy to car share or whatever.
What time are we planning to arrive?
Yes, that would be the most direct/quickest route from your house. If I went direct from Derby then sticking to dual carriageways and motorways for as long as possible is quickest. (Actually, I'd probably just go A42, M42, M5 straight to Worcester).
I'd like to maximise the time walking and talking it through so as early as you like.
OK, fine by me.
By the way. I love how Glasbury is equidistant between Three Cocks and Cwmbach.
