Just wondering, would Heer have worn the Splinter camo I was reecently at a film shoot wearing a Splinter Smock

May I refer you to my article.. http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/so-you-wanna-do-german/
Heer did not make extensive use of camouflage. Buy your Feldgrau uniform - by far the most common attire.

I agree with Steiner, 99.9% of all heer soldiers never saw more camo kit than a zeltbahn.
Certain units got some issue of camo, pick the right unit at the right time and you can get your smock on or perhaps your helmet cover.
In Airsofting there is often a requirement to be flexible in your impression.
Keep it to field grey and you can fit in with anyone at any time.

They were issued by the Heer and used but not to many. They dont show up much on photos, they were often issued for one operation and taken back to stores.
D-day photos show some of 21st panzer div grenadiers wearing smocks. They had been on exercise the night before. Later in the campaign they dont seem to be wearing them.

Splinter A camo was worn by Heer, but not very often. As an example, I have a book on the élite Grossdeutschland regiment, full of 100s of pictures, and there is not one Splinter smock in sight until 1944, and then just one squad of men, a couple with smocks. This is in contrast to the Waffen SS, who can be seen all wearing camo smocks even in 1940.
A common sight in Normandy would be the Splinter Zeltbahan worn as an oversmock.

I think that would be a common sight everywhere, especially if it's raining.
It did rain quite a lot in France, June 1944.
