“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942
"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

Aww, thankyou sir, that's really jolly good of you.
Pte. Barrie is hereby promoted to Platoon Sergeant.
Am I correct in assuming both promotions are on an acting, unpaid basis?
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier

In the unlikely event of any NCO living long enough to draw pay.....yes.
This is not starting to sound good... in fact it is starting to sound positively bad!
Unfortunately, Pte Angel did not want the promotion, so is currently undergoing Field Punishment Number 1. The British Army always gives you a choice.

Quite right. How does the saying go? "The Army can't make you do anything - but it can make you wish you had".
A high rate of attrition amongst ORs is a sacrifice I'm willing to make on your behalf.

IIRC FP No.1 was abolished in the 1920s, however if you want to do it, go ahead.
When the war is over we shall consult the list, and try you for war crimes
Cheers

You're making the incorrect assumption that you will win the war, Jerry.
(I tell you, this MP kit is making me really nasty! )

If this is the rate at which the Brits promote their NCO's & SNCO's before battle, I look so forward in helping them choose further "field promotions" during battle courtesy of my MG42

Our final victory is inevitable, that nice Mr Hitler said so.

Due to his excellent marksmanship, Cpl (acting, unpaid) Quinn is now to lead a Bren team, and has therefore been demoted to Private.
Cpl (acting, unpaid) Lipton will be the second section leader.
