Anyone using the clockwise M25 route to get to Sandpit via the Dartfort crossing should be aware that the toll booths have gone as they no longer take payment in cash. You now have to pay your £2.50 online or by phone here

https://www.gov.uk/pay-dartford-crossing-charge

or else get a zillion pound fine.

I have already prepaid for two crossings. It isn't very hard to do, but you need to remember to do it! Or face a zillion pound fine :(

Cheers

What  so what happens if you don't know you'll be using the crossing or are a tourist, is there no way to pay when you get there?

I think you can pay retrospectively and have a grace period but check as I'm often wrong .

Yes, you can pay after the event as Dadio says. I gather trying to pay by phone is an 'interesting' experience, so I prepaid.

It isn't any different to the congestion charge really, although in this particular case I imagine it just moves the traffic jam a few miles further on.

If you're a foreign tourist in a non-GB registered car, you're laughing. They reckon that 250,000 foreign motorists haven't paid in the first 4 months of the scheme, which must overshadow the savings they've made by sacking the booth staff
