This game will be set in the scrambles to secure the area behind Monte Cassino during May 1944. In this the troops of Polish 2nd Corps and 1st Fallschirmjäger Division were involved in some of the hardest, closest and bloodiest combats on the western front. Every hill and farmhouse was vital and every wall or rock a fortress.
The Poles
The Polish unit represented will be the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division.
The Germans
The German unit represented will be the 1st Fallschirmjäger Division.*
A detailed description of kit will follow shortly but the main point to note is that that this game is in the Italian theatre, and so the Mediterranean variants of uniforms are the order of the day.
Weapons rules will also follow at an appropriate time, but expect them to be almost exactly the same as the PBI games.
Where and When
The game will be held at Taffyjohn's excellent Ex Site in North Wales. The game is a single day event on Sunday May 16th and camping space is available for Saturday night.
Cost
The cost will be £25 per player and details on booking will follow closer to the time.
Please post any questions, queries, quandaries or anything beginning with a 'q'. I have organised this well in advance so there loads of time to argue about the correct colour of Fallschirmjäger knickers.
*given the distinctiveness of the Fallschirmjäger kit, and that there are many German players who can not do such a loadout there will be a Heer option in the near future, though all Fallschirmjägers would be great a balance of practicality and reality will be reached.
Mmm... tropical...
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
And wool.
As a note for anyone worried that a hill passing for an abbey will have to be sat on/charged at repeatedly (which would be terribly boring) the abbey itself was not assaulted during this battle. Instead the fighting was carried out around the north of the abbey around the hills and farmhouses so this will be a game with plenty of variation in attackers and defenders, objectives and missions.
Just thought I'd mention.
And the Germans were drunk on wine throughout.

Here's the perfect opportunity for me to wear my fancy dress bear suit

I was offering a prize (not a real prize you understand, but an imaginary internet prize) for the first person to ask if we would be having a bear. Given you asked to be said bear I think you can have that (imaginary do not forget) prize and more (though also imaginary).
I am supprised they have not made a Holywood movie about the bear yet

Is it just a one day game? It is quite a trek for just one day but I'm still interested if I get to wear tropical gear.
Angel the kit would be a mix of tropical and temperate gear, so wear whatever you like in that respect really. I'm not sure about the sumpf smock though, they were around then but were rare and I don't think there were any worn at MC. At least I don't remember seeing any in photos. Although splinter was the most prevelant green smocks wear still quite common and there is the odd bit of Italian camo. There is plenty of photos showing FJ wearing just tunics or shirts so you need not bother with a smock at all.
Can anyone pop an FJ kitlist off the top of their head for this theatre? Late enough for sumpf, and cool enough for woolie jump trousers? Or will i need to go shopping...

Peppered, me old mateo, i am excedingly drunk, so I will aaoid going into a long post now - because it wil only make me look like an arse.
i do feel like a terribly neglectful father, and rightly so, but I will - in the next day or two - place a 'German side' list. It is only my natural respect/fear of the total knowledge of the the average Gewrman player that has made me do substantial research into who/what/why/where.
In the long and short, making the most simple of answers for you - Yes you can.
(because that is how drunk i am...)
Yes the uniform should be fine. Just remember not to sew on the Afrika Korp cuff title. I'm not sure what you've ordered but you could wear a later war shirt, use normal leather webbing, gaiters and maybe change the shoulderboards to wool ones just make it look more late war Italian theatre styled.
Cool!
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
OK that saved some money but more importantly got me into another game! Hooray!
I can pinch the shoulderboards off by 36 Heer tunic and cover up the cuff title if it is present when the stuff arrives.
I must admit, I had hoped the DAK would have been at Monte Casino as it is a jump off/ pull back location for Afrika but I know nothing so who was actually their (apart from my mates grandad who was driving a Brit tank at the time)?

The cuff title will almost certainly not come sewn on, but in the unlikely event that it does, simply roll up your sleeves!

Cassino is quite far north for any jumping off point. Plus the DAK had been destroyed a year before the battle.
Yer, but I meant Italy being the jump off/ retreat point for Africa and that any remainders might be in the area recouperating and rushed in from many parts of Italy?
I don't know, I 'm justifying using the uniform I just bought
