Now those of you who have been to Oddballs games in the past will know that he does like to put some effort into props etc for everyones enjoyment. For Monte LaDifensa I will be assisting him with that side of things. Now obviously I cant give too much away in advance but there will be a need for engineers on both sides to diffuse and blow things up. We could ideally do with 2 engineers on each side so if blowing shit up or getting blown up is your thing let me know and Ill put you down as engineers/pioneers :good:

Here is a video of an SG41 prop I am making for this event.

"Cryptographic equipment type SG-41 was one of Germany's last coding machine efforts. It has been stated that if this machine had been introduced into service earlier than it was, then the outcome of WWII would have been very different since it would have certainly caused trouble for Allied cryptoanalysts. The machine was dubbed the "Hitler Mill" (Hitlermühle) since mill is slang for typewriter. Schluesselgeraet is the German name for a cipher device.

Development of the SG-41 began in 1941 at the Wanderwerke (a typewriter company) in Chemnitz, Germany. At the time, the company ranked as one of the most prominent German manufacturer of typewriters. The internal workings of the SG-41 had some resemblance to the American M-209 cipher machine. The SG-41 printed the encrypted text or the decrypted plain language on paper strips but unlike the M-209, it had a keyboard.

Functionally, the SG-41 machine resembled the machines of the Hagelin company in Switzerland and rumours abounded that they were allegedly more complex in nature in an attempt to increase security. This claim for additional security was never proven. Even today, it has not been verified even though two working examples of SG-41 still exist.

Once the machine was ready for production, Hitler's cryptography experts wanted to replace the Enigma in mass, but by that time there were tens of thousands of Enigmas in service. Even though this initiative proved unsuccessful, it did demonstrate that the German crypto community did not trust the security of the Enigma any longer.

After end of WWII, a SG41 Hitler Mill was found in Norway and the last printed message was still on it. It read:

"THE LEADER IS DEAD. THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES. DOENITZ."

As well as Oddballs tank and anti tank gun, work is under way on the Enigma machine. In addition we will have defensive positions with barbed wire that will need clearing with a bangalore torpedo, minefeilds that will have to be cleared, unexploded bombs that will need to be diffused (these go bang if your hand shakes to much!). The MG42 is being issued to a machine gun team whilst the MG34 will be set up so any one can jump on it and give the Allies a blast :good: It can either load automatically when the trigger is pressed or for a higher rate of fire a 2 man team is best (one feeding the ammo) :D

This has the makings of an epic game :happyswing:

(Thanks to Gordon for the inspiration and info on the bangalore and UXB's, Boshman for info on the mines and Pete for the brilliant idea of using a screwdriver motor for feeding ammo :good: )-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

Props are looking great Tim :good:

Did you copy the mines exactly or did you make some improvements?

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

There a bit like the childs game operation :slap: There is a priming coil that has to be removed from the main body without it touching the side, otherwise it goes bang
Thanks for the inspiration Gordon :good:
