Hi, I'm andy from mountsorrel near Loughborough, new to airsoft guns but have been shooting over 25 years in other forms.
Currently own a Cyma glock 18c( might trade this for a 1911 aep), A&K Dragunov svd, a g&g cm16(zzzzzzz) and my best gun is my new king arms thompson m1a1 military full wood and metal which had to be 2 toned much to my disgust as it is a lovely gun.
My favourite period of history is ww2 and has been for many a year!

Well, this isn't a cheap hobby but you don't need a ton of gear to start out - jacket, trousers, hat, boots, plus people are usually happy to lend stuff out.
Main thing is to get a along to some games, I guess the next game featuring US troops is the D-Day one in November.
Cheers

The main reason I chose the thompson is that I originally saw my gun in July but thought it was too pricey for my budget(£230 for a full wood and metal version , no plastic!) but my local retailer started a layaway scheme and I put £80 down against an APS UAR that took so long I got fed up of waiting for it.
So my retailer suggested the thompson as he remembered I liked it that much and after a night thinking about it I took it.
The thompson gives me a lot of flexibility regarding load out as I can go ww2 American or british, Korean and Vietnam conflicts plus it's a gun you don't see everyday in skirmishing and that appeals to me as you see m4 variants all day long but that said it is incredibly versatile.

The Thompson was the first WW2 gun I got, I've used it with British, Russian and German impressions. They all used them.
The German designations for Thompsons were:
MP.760 (e)/(j)/(a)/(r) Captured Thompson M-28 from British, US, Yugoslavian or Soviet
MP.761 (f) Captured Thompson M-1921 purchased by France in 1939

A shame full plug but if you want to get to a game check out the Op Nordlicht game in October. Thompson as Russian lend lease weapon and we even have kit to deck you out in. Have a look might interest you.
Nordlicht is too far away but op Copenhagen is not far at all as I'm near leicester, have to look at my camo gear!

Hello & welcome, try and get along to an event as soon as you can - dont worry about perfect kit, people will always help out & lend you bits that you need.
Copenhagen is a rifles only game, but theres no harm asking Wladek whether you could use a thompson on semi auto only or the SVD. Someone may even be able to lend a rifle. Kit would not be a problem at that one, all the allies seem to have taken the opportunity to build weird and wonderful new impressions, Belgian, Polish, French etc. This means that many will have spare kit for a more normal impression. I for example will be going to it as Australian so can spare my Denim battledress jacket and possibly a Brodie helmet (as an Australian I should still wear the helmet but the slouch hat is just so much cooler). Do try to borrow stuff elsewhere though as I have to get there without a car so extra stuff to carry would cut into space I could use for Beer (essential for an Aussie impression).

Funny you mention my svd, is there a power limit(doing 450fps with .25gr bb's)?
No matter if there is as I have a spare madbull m100 spring and fitting it will only take 5 minutes.

I don't think any site in the country would let you use a semi-auto rifle doing 450 with 0.25s. WW2 games are generally fairly low powered.
Those KA Thompsons are also hot out of the box, has it been downgraded?
If you are new to Airsoft then I'd recommend going to some open days at a local site and get a feel for how it all works before dropping a load of cash on something you may not like.

My svd is a spring bolt action and regarding the fps of my tommy gun I only repeated what my retailer said when I collected it.
I played a full day of airsoft games about 3 years ago, although I was knackered and had cramp in my legs towards the end I must say I enjoyed it and that's why I like airsoft guns hence my little collection.
The guys at the air pistol club love seeing them as they are so realistic..... And the ammo is cheaper if you just use .20/.25gr.
I won't buy .4gr bb's just for plinking.

I still doubt you'd be able to use a 450fps bolt action. If you were then it would certainly not be without a minimum engagement distance and you may find that prohibiting to game play where a lot of the action is at closer range.
The vast majority of games will want a weapon that is sub 350fps on the chrono with .20bbs. Some will allow bolt actions up to 400fps.
If your SVD is doing 450fps on 0.25's then it'd be running closer to 500fps by the time you drop the ammo weight. There is no way in Hell you're going to be allowed to use that I would have thought.
Dropping the spring on your Thompson sounds like the best idea.

I have a spare m100 AEG spring that will fit my svd.

Before you go ahead and do anything check with Wladek the organiser of the Copenhagen game to see if its something he would allow. You will know exactly where you stand then.

Good advice, I'm pretty sure that Rifles only means Rifles only, its not just the single shot but the large ungainly stick of wood that is required. Anyhow welcome to the forum ![]()

Correct, it is rifles only - no SMGs on single shot or pistols - and an SVD is too distinct looking to pass for a WWII rifle, so a quick google search shows me.
