I was wondering if it was better turning up to an event to watch before I go an buy anything.

Welcome Ben.

Airsoft is terribly boring to watch, you need to be experiencing it first hand. It's a good idea not to rush into buying kit though - at some games you can borrow uniforms from the organiser and hire a gun, and at other games you might find fellow players who are willing to lend out spare kit on a 'you break it, you mend it' basis. Take a look at the games sections to see what's what. As for buying an airsoft gun, well that can be tricky for new starters.
See if this helps:

hi and welcome
best to look at the games and see what takes you'r fancy, then look to borrowing the kit for the first event , as mentioned gunman events are great for this as they offer free loan kit. once you have kit sorted then book on and have fun .there are always people willing to help advise what to get and where from ,best to ask first and get the right stuff.getting ukara is no real hardship , just go to three regular airsoft games (or three gunman ww2 games)at the same site, its a bit like paintball ,fun but limited.then you can buy a gun.

Ben welcome to the forum can I ask where are you based? We all like to get some idea where people are on this forum as you could be 5 miles for one of us and get invited along to an event etc.

Hello and welcome,

sound advice above, you don't need to rush out and buy a ton of stuff, you can often borrow/rent things and there are various rules & regulations about buying airsoft guns. As Chommers says, the best thing is to come along and play to find out what it is all about.

As WW2 airsoft events are relatively few and far between and you are new to Airsoft, then you might also want to seek out a local airsoft site just to try the whole thing out, they also usually rent out gear. Site open days don't really play the same way as WW2 games, but it gives you an idea of how stuff works.

You must be near to Gunman's site in Tuddenham, where there are frequent events. If you're also in the south of England, check out Luga River Line in Oxfordshire.

What side are you thinking of playing?

British airborne morphs easily into other British impressions, but for Luga there is some loan kit available (not many British paras on the eastern front!)
