It's the way forward.
The lines between the two are blurring all the time. The last airsoft game I went to saw standards almost as high as the last re-enactment battle I was at.
Airsoft has the advantage that it's more fun.

One of the problems I find well at least in the North is re-enactors don't like to pay for an event normally the public do it for them 
Not saying you are like that though
