Greetings, I am new to airsoft and want to start with a British WW2 kit (Normandy/OMG ).
I will start with a Thompson and a pistol (not sure what's best atm) .
Any sugestions on battle dress and role are wellcome. Also what Side arm shall be best?
Thanks
Dion

Hello Dion, welcome to the forum. Don't worry about getting a sidearm, focus on getting your primary weapon, battledress, webbing & helmet.

In terms of role, start with generic British Infantry, then over time you can get more specific looks sorted (Para, Commando etc). You might also want to consider a STEN rather than a Thompson - also Landwarrior seem to be doing them cheap!

Hello and welcome,

as above, I woudn't worry about pistols, whose main function is to provide souveniers for the enemy, although many people like to stash them about their person. If you really want one, then get a cheap period looking springer for those one in a hundred occasions when you actually use it.

If you have never, ever done Airsoft before I would strongly recommend going to a local Airsoft site and playing a game or three to get a feel for how it all works before you drop a ton of cash on something which may not be for you.

Thompson or Sten is fine, the former was used by British forces in all theatres for the entire war whereas the latter is fairly NWE specific. My Thompson is the only weapon I have used with every single impression (inlcuding Soviet and German) as itr wa used by absolutely everyone in varying numbers.

Some people will tell you to get a rifle which is fine and dandy if you know what you are doing with it and have a load of cash to spend. Not something I would recommend as a first airsoft weapon personally, unless you get a commercially made one like an ICS Garand.

The kit guides give you a good idea for what is required for British, as an absolute minimum I would recommend BD, Mark II helmet, some black boots (modern DMS or assault boots look fine with anklets) and basic 37 pattern webbing set - belt, cross braces, universal pouches and a water bottle and carrier. It is also a good idea to have a bag of some sort for your bits as many games run all day and you need to carry food & water - gas mask bag or small pack (you'll need to buy L straps for the small pack if you want one).

Cheers
Martin

Welcome to the forum. I'd echo the above, try a few regular airsoft games first to get a feel for how the guns perform and what it's all about, though WWII is very different in rules and play style.
An SMG is the weapon to start with, regardless of faction, if you're set on British then Landwarrior airsoft frequently sell Sten guns for just under £100 (which is not bad at all for a decent airsoft gun), though as Martin says the Thompson is more versatile as far as impressions go.
Whichever faction you go for, basic infantry is the best place to start. :good:

I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.

I do plan to go to site first and have a go.
Regarding the sten it seems you need to do a bit of work before it is an accurate impreson of the real gun.
The only rifles I want are the LE no.5 and M1 carbine.
I could cross over to american if it better suits my needs.

My Intention at first is not to join ww2 games just play regular games in a ww2 kit cos it is my style.

Thanks for the replies so far

Dion

PS-- What is the balance like on the tompson it looks front heavy (I prefer the wieght in my shoulder)

My Thompson is like a real one, just heavy! I think the balance depends on which one you've got, but with a big battery in the stock and lo/mid cap magazines or shorty 110 round hi caps there isn't much weight at the front.

The AGM/ASG Stens look pretty good out of the box, I suppose you could fiddle around filling all the screws in, and the exposed gubbins you can see through the bolt slot are annoying, but hardly the end of the world.

Cheers

Welcome to the forums. M1 carbines are tricky as gas isn't the best for for our climate but I guess you're in the best location!

well, there is a co2 M1 carbine with a plastic stock so I would get that if I could find a wooden stock for it. My first choice is a Thompson if I can handle the weight of it though I have thought about STENs but the ones on the market though they are alright I want something special. probably could get away with a M1 Garand aeg but I prefer the carbine.

Well, the Thompsons aren't that heavy, certainly not as heavy as a real one which weighs as much if not more than a rifle.

If you get a KA one they are pretty hot out of the box (400+ fps iirc) so need downgrading. The CYMA and TM ones are OK.

Was going to get the full metal KA Thompson M1A1 about (3K without mag) its more like where the weight is though. I will need to feel one to see how it is.
However what I most want to have is A M2 though that will have to wait.

My CYMA Thompson weighs about the same as a modern M4 aeg, I run a large battery in the stock with the plastic woodwork. I've never really had an issue with it being too heavy more just trying to fire it prone (not an issue for the sten) My wood and metal Garand is a lot heavier but the cyma thompson far outperforms it in range and accuracy. The only mods I've ever done to it were to put some teflon spray in the barrel and change out the hop rubber and nub to a guarder clear and an H nub.
