What: Airsoft WW2 LARP event based around Normandy, June 1944 and is advertised on another forum and a private Facebook group. The audience is intended as all levels of WW2 enthusiasts and any proceeds above the running costs will be going to Help for Heroes. The site on the South coast has 2xfield guns, 4xmortars, 5xbunkers, a fort, a farm, a large village surrounded by 3 bridges, hills, pine forest, plantation with 5ft ferns, loads of cover, loads of fun. This will be a limited ammo event, also the game play will be objective and squad based.

This is NOT an airsoft skirmish but LARP, it is intended for new and experienced WW2 LARPers. If possible, as it's up to the individual squad leaders, we would like to mix a couple of the newer guys in with the more experienced squads. As WW2 events do not seem to be as popular as previously we need to inject some new blood into the genre, this seems a good way to do it. To be successful we need the support of you old hands to turn up and share your experience.

The games will incorporate medic rules and run with the WW2airsoft.org.uk rules. These will all be briefed on the day so don't worry if you don't know them.

Scenario: Normandy
6th June Hitler's Atlantic wall had been breached, by 8th June British and US forces had not linked to expand their toehold in Normandy.
11th June Hitler orders the German troops to maintain a static defence and hold their ground.
With strong Allied air and naval gun support, the German army goes on the defensive and they take advantage of the terrain to fight a tough defensive action.
Most of the terrain over the battle of the coming weeks would be fought well suited to such a strategy as Normandy was noted for its Bocage dense hedgerows, small open fields and woodland, with small villages and farms and narrow lanes, making every turn a potential death trap for the Allies.

The scenario will feature Allied troops breaking out and pushing back the German forces that are dug in to protect their strongholds on the village with nearby fuel/ammo dump, mortar and artillery positions. The eventual outcome is for allied forces to succeed.
Depending on numbers the US and Brits may need to fight side by side, French partisans may also take part on the Allied side.

Where: At CS Woodland, the minimum age to play at CSW is 14yrs, under 16's will need to complete a parental consent form. Directions: http://www.combatsouth.co.uk/csw/location.html It is near Fareham, Hampshire.

When: Saturday 21st June 2014 for the main game, gates will be open at 9am and the games will start at 10am sharp. We will aim to finish around 5pm. Camping over from Friday 20th June after 5:00pm. If you want to camp over let me know when you book.

Why: I run LARP games to do something a little different than the usual airsoft events run by the big boys. If you just want to shoot loads of BBs and run around the woods these games won't be for you. We also welcome suggestions for games to make things interesting. Oh, and to live a little history!

Prices:

£20 per player, including camping over on the Friday (we may play a couple of games in the evening if there are enough people interested, not necessarily WW2. Pistols only that sort of thing). £10 deposit with booking required. Booking thread will be opended in May.

£15 for a hire gun but it will only be a scrimmed M4.

£3.50 grenade or large smoke
£2 MK5 flash bang
Approx £5 for bang then smoke mortar ammo (depends how many are needed for discount rate)
Approx £5 for bang then bang mortar ammo (depends how many are needed for discount rate)
Ammo £7.50/3000 Blaster 0.2g BBs

Weapons:

350FPS for all guns except bolt action rifles (BAR).
500 FPS for BAR, minimum engagement distance 30m so bring a side arm.

If you have guns hotter than this please PM me, we will be getting the chronograph out on the day for everyone's safety.

Plastic knife kills count, no real knives on the playing field.

If you have any WW2 period airsoft guns great, bring 'em. Examples include Sten, Browning, M3, M1 Garand, M1A1 Thompson, M1911A1, MP40, MP44, Kar 98, Luger, Mauser 712 to name but a few.

Absolutely no scopes unless on period weapons.

Acceptable modified weapons (We'll have hessian on the day to give out for free):

M14 scrimmed with hessian or net as an M1 Garand
M4/M16/G36 scrimmed with hessian or net as a Thompson
MP5 scrimmed with hessian or net as an MP40
AK scrimmed with hessian or net as an MP44
VSR10/11/BAR with no scope scrimmed with hessian or net as a Kar 98 or on Allied sniper

You get the idea, as long as you make the effort to get in the spirit of the event no one will mind.

Ammo Limits:

These limits are for ammo carried in mags and you must reload at a Command Post or HQ. You can carry as much ammo with you as you want.

300rds in mags carried for AEG
2000rds for machine gun, 1 per squad max.
100rds carried for BAR/sniper.
Pistols max 2 mags carried.

Reload only at respawn or HQ.

Other equipment: No radios/PMRs in the game please.

Dress Code: Period costume is preferred but obviously not every one can afford all the kit. If you make the effort it will be far better for everyone; olive green for the Allied forces and green, grey or black for the Axis. Boiler suits are fine as a cheap alternative. Dark boots no trainers. SAS just green and black beanie.

FREE LEND GERMAN UNIFORM: Josh at Gunman has kindly offered to lend us some German smocks so you'll only need to supply green or grey trousers and dark boots.

Refreshments: Not supplied, bring your own food and cooking source and plenty to drink. There will be water supplied but only as much as we can bring so bring extra with you.

Facilities: Male/female toilets are available. A shop selling some essentials like BBs, pyro. Also limited battery charging and repair facilities. There are player shelters and a BBQ area.

Please PM or reply to the post if you have any questions or ideas for improvment.

just as an FYI you are placing your date right on/next to a game that will be coming up over the weekend.

Would be up for this if Calender is free, might be able to interest the rest of our Southern Posse along as it is for Help for Heroes all on the German side

Hi Wladek,

I checked on this forum and as far as I can see there are no games scheduled in June. What am I missing?

There is an organisers section where organisers of games co-ordinate dates. Asking any of the WW2 game organisers what dates would be good would have gotten you the required information.

Apologies I was unaware of this. My hands are tied for the dates though as I booked the site a few months ago as it doesn't become available for private days very often. I've been running private LARP days there for over a couple of years and you need to book ahead so cancelling this event could mean it won't happen for sometime. I did speak to Josh about it on Sun and he just mentioned he had a Vietnam event on that day. What problems will I cause if I go ahead? I'm not looking at taking all the regulars it's more about getting new players in. There's also quite a bit of interest in getting WW2 events on the South Coast from my regulars and some of your regulars I spoke to on Sunday.

Another definitely interested from me. Preferably german (Waffen SS as it's Normandy) or can do British Airborne if evening up of sides is required.

I'm always a bit confused what LARP is exactly. I think one of the most important aspects of WW2 games is getting into the mindset of which ever side your playing on. Playing in squads, following your nco's orders, making a decent attempt at being hit and staying on the ground for a few minutes afterwards. It all adds to immersive play and atmosphere. Whether that's LARP I'm not really sure.

I have played a few games with LARP type subplots. The ones that work best to me were reasonably straightforward, so that people know exactly what they have to do (not that I'm any scenario planning expert)

Sounds great anyway, and I'll be watching this spot with interest. I think I'll see if I can find my old soundfile of basic commands in german, and have a proper go at learning them this time!

Know what you mean about LARP; it's all about getting in the zone. It means one thing to some, something different to others.
