having used Co2 for weapons in film use for many years, make sure ALL of your regulators, fittings, pipes etc are for Co2 use or they will freeze up and can be known to break under pressure, throwing bits of metal etc at a great rate of knots

Problem is with CO2 weapons is that its very easy to modify the power... Just change the gas regulator setting and you can easily be well above site limits. Fiddle with it again and you can then have the weapon down to a level where it passes a chrono test.

Therefore a site owner has to be very trusting to allow them. Personally if I was one I'd say "No way, jose!"...

Isn't Neill's MP44 CO2 powered?

* thinks * Heh, of course!

Vaguely remember another CO2 gun used at Arnhem, was it an MG42?
Anyhoo, point is it's the power that matters...

Not sure if he runs it on CO2 or HPA. Either would work. Regulated CO2 is a pretty good power source, unlike green gas. It's a lot easier to set up to the required pressure and, therefore a stable fps. It was widely used in pro paintball for years before compressed air took over. Most paintball sites still use it as a cheap and reliable power source for "punter" days.

Yith, it's just as easy to abuse the chrono' with any type of gas gun (or aeg for that matter) if someone has the desire to, not just CO2. With CiA games being self regulating (ie, no marshalls), we have to have a modicum of trust. Normal airsoft propellants are a waste of time when it gets cold, I think it's to do with Newtons theory on the expansion of a liquid to a gas (or some other clever bloke!).

Its true, it is possible to abuse chronos with any gas gun and even possible with AEGs...

But, it is easier to adjust a valve regulator out in the field than it is to change the gas in all your mags or change the spring in your gun...

;)

Gas power varies with boiling point... that's what matters... Green has a lower boiling point than 138 hence is better when the ambient temperature is lower and also has more power in the summer...

I suppose it is, potentially. Most CO2 regulators are fitted with an "anti tamper" though, so, once you've set the required pressure, it's locked off and needs a spanner to undo it. I've seen people with aeg's use heavier ammo to go over chrono's in order to get a lower reading, then switching to .2's to play. I've heard a lot of players say words to the effect of "I'll have to use heavier ammo to get it under the limits". I don't want to start an fps war of words here, I'm trying to state the facts. Noone has anything to worry about regarding whatever power source is used in a gas gun, be it a Tanaka, Shoei, WE, or anything else for that matter. I'm sure that we're all grown up enough not to shoot at our fellow players (and friends!) with silly velocities. For myself, I'd much rather get hit by ONE round at 500fps than by 10 at 370 or more fps!

I know that we don't have marshalls at our games but that doesn't stop ALL players being collectively responsible for each other. If you see a team mate get hit, you tell them, if someone goes out of bounds, you tell them and, if someone is being a tit or abusing the rules, you tell them.

I've run airsoft sites, and if you can think of a way of cheating, then I can pretty much guarantee i've seen it done. AEG's, 134a/Propane Gas blowbacks. HPA/CO2, sniper rifles - the lot.

Hell, i've even caught players who had two IDENTICAL sets of guns, one that would pass the chrono, and ones that wouldnt. I saw them sneak back to their car halfway through the first game and swap 'em. I've seen VSR and APS2 users swap cylinder sets in the field, i've seen CA M249 owners swap springs over when they thought somone wasnt looking.

If someone is going to cheat, they're going to cheat - you deal with it when you catch them (and they all get caught. eventually)

Neil used his gas MP44 at Eagle has landed. Got shot a few times with it and it didnt hurt all that much, so yeah we do trust him :good: hehe had no idea it was CO2 though.

@ Kermit, totally agree with that, I always let people know on my own team whether it hits them and they dont know, could have been a sniper and they'd been waiting a long time to take the shot.

i agree, i only ever use guns within site limits, if a site dont allow it , i dont use it :good:

its nice to have some guns with above average performance, for plinking in the back yard, glass bottle shooting and the occasional games of "big boys airsoft" where no fps limits are set and its just between close friends who play sensable and dont engage up close (ie ...NOT... on a regular site)
:good:

i love the way the ww2 community keep a sense of honour and honesty, far above the levels found on "normal" airsoft days
(allthough were not perfect, and a few mistakes happen) :D

I'm a firm believer that guns like a machine gun (especially an MG42) should have a high ROF and should be quite powerful, so that they are hard to assault and present a bit of fear! Otherwise whats the difference from any other AEG

Well as the saying goes..."No Pain...No Gain". I like things to be as realistic as possible without the obvious point of being killed.

and like Doug says it'll keep him warm with all the running..although i think i might play as a medic too.

All depends on the organisers rules - no point having 21 medics and 4 armed personnel
