Above we see a typical Tommy of the Early War. As you can see he does not look very different from those we see later on, but there are a few noticeable differences, things that make him fit in 1940 more.
The most noticeable of these is the Gas Mask Bag on the front of the chest - either MKV or MKVI were used, but a MKVII is completely fine - and there is a gas brassard on the left arm.
Secondly the webbing is a different shade of green - it is known as Pea Green - and the Helmet (not very noticeable in the pic) is painted brown, not the Green common in later war.
And that is about it - standard Battle Dress, different coloured webbing and helmet, and a different gas mask bag.
Copenhagen Requirements
So, what do we require of the Brits at Copenhagen?
Firstly, and you will here this a lot, no camo. It is a battledress and Khaki Drill era. No Berets and No GS caps, soft hats should be the FS cap.
As the game is set in southern France then a mix of Battledress, denims and KD is perfectly fine, as is shirtsleeves.
Webbing does not have to be Pea Green, any British webbing colour is fine, but Pea Green or unblancoed is preferred.
No "lightweight" gas mask bags. players should wear a MKV/MKVI or MKVII gas mask bag as seen in the picture or non at all.
MKII Helmets should be worn. Any helmet colour is fine, but the Brown coloured ones are preferred. Alternatively to re-painting your helmet a hessian cover can be used.
The standard british e-tool should not be worn. If an e-tool is worn it should be the 39 pattern e-tool.
Kilts and Tam o' Shanters are perfectly acceptable for their regiments.
So the only thing we ask players to add to a standard battledress impression is the gas mask bag if they wish. Although you can go as to-town as you would like.
I was just reminded of a Pic of Dean from the Giogio game a couple of years back.
This is all you would need for a British Impression. Boots, BD Trousers, Gaiters, Helmet, Rifle and Bandolier. He has even ditched his webbing for effective fightiness.
There is absolutely no requirement for people to get a 'parade' uniform, weighed down with every trinket they could possibly have. The essence of an Early War look is in subtracting, not adding.
From both sets of photos it looks like the main requirement is a look of Bulldog like determination

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
what did the gas brassard do ? did it change colour or something ?
Yes it changed colour. Pink areas would appear when in contact with vessicant(blister) agents.
Sounds like a little extra that would make a difference, looks like it could be made at home, what material was it made of?
I think the entrenching tool is the only thing hard to get hold of (i dont have a german or russian one to use) but just the addition of the gas mask bag and maybe a hessian helmet cover would be enough

That is exactly our thinking.

Excellent
The Gas Brassard there is an SoF one. £6 and a good repro. Probably a lot better than one could make oneself for the price.
You may notice that in that photo of me (eating a wasp) there is no entrenching tool. Well I do now have one... It's actually yet to be used as a british one and has been used as a Russian one instead. It's almost identical to an early Soviet shovel, all apart from the 1940 markings and a couple of rivets. Of course it's also probably worth a lot more than a soviet shovel!
Hi
this will be my first ww2 airsoft game and the only kit I have is a rifle. where is the best place to buy the uniform?
Firstly I would suggest having a look at the "Kit Guide" for regular infantry (it is labeled as 'Hallamshire Battalion').
In regards to the uniform, BD is readily available as reproductions. The big two (Soldier of Fortune and What Price Glory) both have them available. And Chinese suppliers like Spearhead (on ebay) also do them.
The General consensus is that SoF do 'the best' Battle Dress, though of course it is more expensive.
Battledress labeled as 37 pattern is better than 40 pattern - is it is more in fitting for more of the war (plus looks loads better).
Webbing is cheap as chips and available from many places.
You will also see some kit for sale on here.
If you are interested and can tell us sizes you may be able to borrow some kit as well.
The General consensus is that SoF do 'the best' Battle Dress...

YOU NEARLY JUST MADE ME CHOKE ON MY HOT TEA!
Politely - since when has that been the general consensus? The wool is far too teddy bear soft (but okay, it has got "better" in the recent years and the colour is far less fawn/gingernut coloured now), and the cut is way too long on the blouses for modern low-waists wearing. For little more you could get Panther Store BD, or less get the Spearhead BD; it's cheaper wool, but a fair colour and at least the blouse length is right.

I prefer Spearhead, but the normal repeated advice on the British forum is SoF. Or it was the last time I remember, I could have just skim read it, or maybe rembering PBI saying as general saying.
IMO, best BD I've come across is from Panther Store - but it ain't cheap! But it is lurrrrvely!
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Yes, I think SoF was 'best' in terms of a reasonable compromise between cost and quality.
As Andy says, the actual best may be Panther, but it isn't cheap, nor is it available off the peg. I for one would hate to send off a mis-measurement by accident and find I'd ended up with a very expensive uniform which doesn't fit.

Yes, everyone is buying Panther Store these days.
Oh and browsing on Panther Store website it is also an option for Czech if anyone felt the need.
Hiki also do Czech uniforms, if you feel the need and are on a budget!
