Kermit, can you bring your chrono please?

If only to dispel myths and complaints about overpowered K98s.

I do have a mild concern about Heide's though...

Yup, i'll chuck a Chrono in the kit bag.

PS - if its *warm*, then expect K98's to be somewhere about 600FPS on Green/Propane. Got to watch out for the Chinky Thompsons as well, they can be very pokey.

I know. If we could just keep an eye on some of the guns, I know our rules are pretty relaxed, but at the same time we have a few noobs to our style of play and I don't want anyone throwing dollies.

Cool, I've been chatting to Heide about it anyway. He mentioned that he was happy to take some of the single shot people to one side in the morning and go through some SOPs with them, as well as showing them how far the minimum engagement distance really is.

Sounds like a nice idea, and coming from a fellow player won't be taken the wrong way.

Sounds like a bloody good plan to me. It constantly amazes me how some Airsofters really don't have a clue about how far away a 30M (or 25M, or whatever) MED actually is.

I chrono'd at 200 yesterday morning! Not fps but peak flow!

I'd warned Guy that I might not be fit enough for Husky - my 'usual' annual summer asthma episode is taking longer than usual to recover from. Thursday night I was really bad and didn't get much better during the day (but still went to work  ). 2am Friday morning I had the worst turn ever, not being able to breath in and out for about 10 minutes (but was probably two). Hanging out of the bedroom window fighting to breath with sweat pouring off me I managed to get the panic under control and bit by bit got enough oxygen in me to sit of the bed and think SHIT, I nearly died just then. (Sorry, not an exaggeration!) Got Mary to ring A&E to say I was coming in (stupidly I drove there reasoning I wouldn't use much energy/oxygen sitting in a car and that ambulances were for ill people and had better things to do- meh, I got there - it was 3am after all.

A&E were very good, saw me immediately and gave me oxygen ventilation then a couple of periods of Ventolin. Saw the Doctor who was very friendly, took blood and peak flow of 200 (my 'normal' is 450 but should be 650) and dropped the bombshell that I wasn't to go home. WTF? Despite my pleading that I was better now I got taken up to the medical observation ward then eventually to a regular chest ward.

18 hours later they discharged me with a peak flow of now 300, still not happy but let me go but because I was 'sensible' (but my trump card was I knew they needed the bed!).

Conclusions?
1. I hate hospitals and was climbing the walls by the end (christ almighty the six men in that bay drove me bonkers - I resorted to forking out £5 for a TV card so I could use the headphones!).
2. Nurses are nice, generally. One was mega-fit. Female ambulance crew have a 50/50 lookers/mingers ratio which I thought was quite high)
3. Nursing assistants are lazy bastards.
4. Hospital food looks and smells better than it used to (but still states crap)
5. Nurses put up with unbelievable crap from some patients (literal and verbal)
6. Smoking is a stupid, stupid, thing to do (sorry Guy and Jay). All the other ward occupants were smokers/ex smokers. None had cancer but all had less lung function than I did - some being barely able to move from bed to chair. All looked 20 years older than their age. All were self-inflicted injuries that cause not only pain to themselves but their loved ones too. Two died in the short time I was there.

7. More relevant to CiA - I will be OK for Husky and OK to lead the Brits but I'm going to have to be very careful and I'll do as much tasking from the CP as I can, rather than lead from the front as I usually do. It would be a real pisser for the event if you have to summon an ambulance to remove me from the Welsh countryside. If I retire to my tent early I'm not being antisocial! I've never used an inhaler in front of anyone and don't intend to so now, so I'll be playing a cautious card - stupid i know, but there you go

Fookin' hell David, sorry to hear that!

I suffer from a touch of Asthma (brought on by an incident with a certain chemical, at a certain secure site) Due to the nature of my work we get regular blood tests and peak flow. Now, I smoke like an absolute bastard, but I still have a peak flow of 850 when i'm good, and at the worst, its been 500 (my lungs are sensitized to certain compounds due the aforementioned incident) so I really have no idea how bad it must have been for you to be down at 200. :?

850? I had no idea we had an Olympian amongst us!

For all it's hideousness there were some funny moments.
As I sat in bed doing a PF reading the old 7.5 stone yellowed man in the bed opposite rasped 'What's your score?'
I replied '270'
He put on an impressed face, as if I was an Olympian. 'Oooh, that's good - I do 180 but I have been down to 50.'

Fek, my hampster can do more than 50!

Christ, you're in hospital for one day, and you have to turn it into some king of competition!!

**edit**

Back when I used to do a *lot* of Kayaking and Mountain Biking (god, thats about 10 years ago now!) I used to be able to max the peak flow meter easily.

But now i'm a fat knacker lol

If only I knew what peak flow was...... My resting heartrate was 45 last time it was checked though, and the doctor was quite surprised.

Sorry to hear that Dave, had no idea you were asthmatic until recent posts. Just out of interest, what sets you off?

Do you think we could rely on Gadge and Yith to get the guys going in the field? As a standby option, how about we have the Jeep (if Oddball brings it) solely for your use so you can drive around the site behind your line?

Incidentally, if you need to go to A&E you should always call an ambulance. They would much prefer to drive a relatively well person to hospital than have to remove you from your car when you've collapsed at the wheel and crashed it. Don't think you're wasting the resource,it's there for your use and the ones who 'self-inflict' their injuries will have to wait their turn!! ;)

Heh, I got bollocked by two nurses in a row for not calling an ambulance (who were very nice about it but the clear message was 'you were a pillock' ). Sting in the tale was it cost me £16 to extract the car from the hospital car park. Still, I would have paid £100 to get away from that place - I practically ran out when I signed the discharge papers!

Peak flow is measured by 'huffing' with all force possible into a simple mouthpiece/tube/piston/scale device and it measures the maximum litres/minute of air you can push out. Measured 19 yr old James at 650 and 17 yr old Vikki at 500 which are fine. I'm doing 300 today so my lungs have half the capacity to shift air than they should, so if under 'higher than resting' oxygen demand I'm going to struggle. I'm improving though and I hope by next weekend even with bouts of high activity I should be able to recover quickly without recourse to inhalers.

I don't anticipate any gaming problems though - I'm expecting discipline. Gadge will be my no 2 (though it will remain to be seen if he can bear the physical load) and if he fails Rich will take over. But yes, Oddballs Jeep would be a good idea (if that comes to pass) and would help me to cover the entire Brit front rather than stuck in a CP.

What causes the asthma? Dunno, doctor doesn't seem to be bothered about finding out why, just that loads of people have it these days! It started all of a sudden 25 years ago on a shopping trip in Nottingham - though I was having a heart attack or something! I am allergic to shopping but I don't think that was the trigger - I assume it is something to do with pollen or fungal spores (as it really kicks off for one short episode a year) but high humidity and 'evening' air make me wheeze at odd times throughout the year.

Hmm, does sound like fungal spores doesn't it?

Here's an idea, why don't you fashion an inhaler inside that pipe you're carrying in your photo, that way you'll look cool at the same time! ;)

Haha, genius!

It had crosed my mind to wear a face mask when not under public gaze (a la Japanese) - things are definately calmer when driving in my ulta-air-filtered car...
