Ex site possible opportunity

Site ringed in red although quarry to the north East can also be brough into play
Mmmm, more hills! Looks good - I'm intrigued by the quarry. It's different - Crete or sommat?
Nice central location too. Looks good, much cover? The map makes the landscape look quite open.
Here's an overhead:
They have a forum on ASSCOCK. If you go through some of the threads on there, you'll find links to a fair selection of pics of the site.
"Mixed" is definitely the way to describe it. Open areas, scrubland, woodland - plus the quarry. And a fair fews ups and downs on it as well. Looks a bit more interesting than the average woodland site...

Heh, it's got a touch of the Falklands about it!

Yep i would consider doing a Mount Tumbledown there . Parts of it are very Dartmoor looking as well .
It also has quite a Northern France look to it in the summer. Bocage anyone?
General vibe seemed to be to have a look at this site.
First off , are we all wanting to have a look , I appreciate it's a fecking long way from Sandhurst, although could put you up at mine Jay (pub) and bomb over from Holmfirth ?
Secondly, do we want to go on a game day ( open daygayness) or arrange a private viewing ?
Thirdly, when would we want it for, I reckon Aug /Sept/Oct to make the most of it . Could do a 24 hourer if we wanted , but we all might not to . Doesn't need an answer now , just consideration .
Finally , if we do want to go when are we looking at being free , I'd pers like to go in the new couple of months and strike for a date whilst it's fresh .
Yes, I would like to look at the site.
I don't object going for a game, just depends if we would have the opportunity to get to see the whole of the site.
Consulting the master plan viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1037&p=40070#p40070
is see that Webby has his game planned in September - I urged him over the weekend to firm it up else it will get over ridden by other games...
August will be thick with people taking holidays plus a fair chunk of folk will be booked for the Vienam game.
Towards the ens of September and we start to compete with the Longmore game, yet early Sept Josh has another game pencilled in.
I don't mind whether it's 24hr or single day - depends on site suitabilty to a degree.
Chaps like the social so it could just be set up camps on Saturday if they want, do a bit of living history/socialising then proper game on Sunday, everyone else arrive on Sunday for the single day game.
Might it be an idea to list when we have personal holidays booked?
Mines 2nd - 9th Aug
23rd -25th August is Bank Holiday weekend
Cool, my pref would be late Sept , Early Oct, nice enough to camp out but miss the Aug holidays.
I have no holidays as such around then , my life is all one long holiday at the mo .
I'm away mid-late Sept for a week, although dates not confirmed yet.
Would definitely like to have a look at it. The offer of overnighting is also there at mine too Jay.
I reckon go with Chommer's suggestion of a social followed by a game. A lot of people are feeling that the 24 hour games are still a bit too much like hard work given a couple of conversations I had at the weekend. I'd say the social aspect of this is what 80% of people turn up for.
Yup, definitely worth a visit. I don't however have a free weekend until the end of March (serves me right for filling up the callender so early this year)
One dayer or 2 dayer? how about TD on the saturday, gaming on the sunday?

Hmm, that's a thought. Single day game + bolt on social if you want to turn up the evening before + bolt on training. Something for everyone.
Might be worth bearing this in mind:
Can you provisionally pencil in an oosterbeek game (ss vs airborne) for sep or early oct>
Probably be a KGSS/PBI collaboration.

Yer, and look what happened last time we relinquished a game slot to PBI. I think they will have to fit round us this time...
I'm more concerned by Webby's game - I've told him to firm it up ASAP but it would be a bit crappy if we ended up side by side. He was a bit miffed CiA didn't seize on his game plans last year...

Agreed, we'll have the slot for us methinks .

Why do people keep thinking we're going to run games using their ideas? Maybe we could just take a break in Autumn and see what happens to all the other games that are being planned. Might be nice just to play for a change!
So far we have Gunman's numerous games, possible PBI, Gunman's Longmoor game, Webby's game.
'Cos most of those probably won't happen! We discussed Webby's plans at some length while at the Cornwall event - he had done a map and all. We said we would discuss it further but with our schedule as it was didn't have the time to pursue it (or the inclination frankly). Webby asked if we were interested in his idea, we looked at it, it was forgotten - that's all.

At the time we also thought SYA would be running a 24 hourer in Sept, which Yith was keen to get involved in , which precluded Webbys Aug/Sept game. In the end we did Wotan instead, but hey you can only work with what you know at the time .
Re people expecting us to run their games ......how can you say "we at CiA run games how we want , when we want help -we'll fecking ask for it , otherwise butt out !"
And yes I bit my tongue about Sunday , why were the three of us were left to train the doughboys whilst picturenobber ran off sucking krout cock Good job we were on hand then eh !
Ok my teddy is back in my cot .
I'll be frank with you , we've had lots of game ideas thrown our way over the years, some good ,some bad. Most we politely turn down , and some have gone onto to make games in their own right, which is good. We've all been involved in running other events apart from CiA ones, and we have a pretty clear idea of where we are going as an organisation (well.. most of the time ) . Some of our games have worked well, some not so , but we like to experiment with each one and incorporate what we learn into the next .
We may not get the Russians/Partisans we are hoping for in which case things'll change for Bryansk , but sat here today, four months before the event, having firmed up the game, we're prepared to give it a go . I'd rather run the event we'd like to with just 20 players than go for large numbers per se .
We went in with Josh for DDay to learn about large numbers,it's not our bag , and it's common knowledge we've said since most CiA games will be 20 a side max . I've seen how at plenty of other events, how unbalanced sides always cause problems , sheer weight of numbers wins through unless it's specifically designed for that such as an E&E .
The player base for WWII always surprises us with how people rise to the occasion, have faith! I look forward to seeing 20 Partisans on the Saturday morning .
PS Wait till you see the game announcment , if people want to bring sidecars and Kubels this will be the one place and time for them to really get good use from them .

Guy, I've never said or implied any of that shite, and you know it. I know you put in a hell of a lot of effort into this, and so do I. What the feck do you think I was doing at the weekend? I didn't get to fire a single shot, came all the way down from the Scottish fecking border, never mind London, and spent my time running between two groups trying to do my best for them, so that everyone went home having had a good time, just the same as you.Now that having been said, I don't see why we can't work together on the Bryansk game. But you'll have to accept that there are not enough players on the Russian side. So, to that end, you should turn it to your advantage and make it an attack and defend game. The Germans have offered to bring a Kubelwagen and a motorcycle combination along. Nelz and Anthony both have combos too.
I've already told you I could probably get 10 or so Russian reenactors to come along. Plus I can arrange a Russian kit deal of trouser, cap and jacket for around £35
You could make this into something special, if you want to, but you'll have to get the balenced numbers idea out of your head.
I've always considered you to be a friend who I appreciate, not some knob I want to organsie games for me and my "German Buddies"so stick yer fecking dummy back in and I'll pick up my rattle you old sod!

TBH Chris , I felt you were saying "your event looks pants, what else can I and my German buddies go to" .Which does grate quite a bit .
We put a feck lot of effort into these events, getting the sites, planning the games, organising all the props . We spend hours debating what both sides will get out of the event, what to do if things go wrong etc. Out main concern has always been to put on an event that players will like, on the day we get little out of it at all other than seeing people having a good time . In the case of Byransk we have already done two site recces, which if you consider Jay lives in London is no mean waste of our time . There's at least 150 hours gone into it before we've even launched .
So to be told , "this looks crap" did get up my/our arse. That might not have been what you meant , but thats how it came across. I wasn't going to say anything, but since you asked directly....

I thought I might have got some help from you with this, but I detect a slight touch of resentment instead. If that's the case please be open about it and say what's bothering you, and I'll back off and you won't see me again.Sent at: Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:12 pm

Well I'll stick to concentrating on running our CiA events . If they don't appeal then they'll have to see what else is out there
