Alright Guys,

Here's the plan for the game for Saturday. I've got to work on Sunday but the idea is an all-out dash for the hills!

The idea for Saturday is to play all day until 6pm with a brief pause after phase one where people can regroup and rehydrate etc. I've tried to keep it props light, or reuse props we already have.

Let me know any thoughts.

I think you're right about the camp site position, but the field is very up and down so it might be a pain in the arse to camp on.-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

Hmm, forgot about the Italian Civilians in this plan. Not a problem, I can shoehorn them in. What I'll do is get the Brits to hook up them so they can provide intel about the locations of the Germans, in a similar way to Arnhem. I'm not keen on allowing or incorporating any side-swapping.

Let me know what you think in the meantime.

I'm off to Edinburgh for work now until Sunday then on holiday from 3-14 July. I may have time to look at it next week.

My brain is shot to shit at the moment, so i'll have a good read of the plan over the weekend and post my thoughts then.

One thought - completely agree about partisans not being allowed to swap sides. Fookin' nightmare to control, and guaranteed to wind up the uniformed players on both sides.

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Right, I've has a chance to peruse plan.

It's pretty close to our original plan except that the two day game is telescoped to Saturday. But I do think it's better that a game is rolled across the site progressively rather than using it all at once as it makes it hard for the Germans to keep in control as they are fighting two enemy fronts, but hehe, I'm not the German commander!

I missed a trick on my plan version by omitting using the area on the SE corner. Rather than drop the Brits in the middle of the gaming area and trucking them there (an unnecessary complication, logistically) their LZ remains as per my map. Except they are mis-dropped (true to life) and are dropped in the area just south of the tree line adjacent to the camp. (So Allies are basically starting from the campsite, just moving in different directions.) They then have to fight to get to their planned LZ on foot. That large area of ferns on the hillside is a pig to fight up. This battle will mirror the US battle through the woods in effect with the Brits fighting through more open gorse/fern.

We don' have much interest (so far) in partisans, taffyjohn is wanting to play - he did seem keen on Brits but I think may be tempted to kit for something else!

I have a big chunk of camo net. I don't think I'll get both drop cylinders to site, bloody nightmare in a car! One would be OK.

Camping. Cars all to be parked close to the gate as per normal. The unplayable area adjacent to the house at the south bordered on all sides by trees is flat enough for a camp, as are the areas to the left of the 'C' and north of the 'e' of 'Camp Site'

The area on the left isn't available to us. Taffy said there's a nice flat bit just beside the tree line at the top of that picture which will be ok. Camping on hills is awful so should be avoided.

My plan was to have the battle breaking out a two points to split the German force a little. Getting up that first hill would be very difficult otherwise. But that's essentially how it's going to go, yes.

Taffy has indicated that some of his regulars will be booking as Italian Partisans, but they're waiting to get enough money together as they spent it all on A2C!! :slap: ;)

I'm going to take another look at the plan tomorrow night which will be my last chance before I go away.

The areas I marked are flat. The large area to the left isn't playable on due to the proximity of the house I know - but for tentage?
Forty+ tents will need a large area - the closest to the cars the better by the road as it less lugging kit up/down hill and further away from gaming area.

The cars will be parked in the field by the gate at the top of the slope.

From what I remember and what Taffy said, those areas aren't particularly flat, on a slight slope and hummocky. We'll decide on the specific area when we get there, but it'll be in that general area for the sake of a start point.

The big area to the left isn't available at all apparently, which is a bit of a pisser. I'm not worried about encroaching a little on the area by the tree line. It's next to useless for gameplay anyway.

Okay.

Being as I've no more time until July 20th to work on this again I'm going to post up this as the plan. Chances are it'll change and evolve whilst we play the game anyway.

For the Sunday I thought a nice simple schlep across the site with potential ambush opportunities might work, I'm not sure about the start points but I'm trying to keep it close to the camp site. We've never tried a game where they're battling over the same objectives and it might fun to see how laterally they think........ :?

No thoughts at all on this?

Is it all ok?? :?

I'll post up a props list this week as well as necessary pyros and current budget allowance.

Would be nice if we can carry a bit of cash forward to the victory show.

I had a run through with Jay at Haggard and Guy and I me ran through it on Saturday.

Cash-wise we should be quids in - large prop costs will come out of Josh fund that Guy holds. Pyro-wise we will need some charges (which we prob have left over from Bryan) but I think smoke might be very useful to give to squad leaders for tactical use plus big smokes to be used by us for atmosphere/large assaults.

The biggest criteria for me are utilising the whole of the available gaming area (progressively, not all at once - big mistake Andy made at Haggard), keeping forces under control (we are effectively running two separate games simultaneously) and having enough to do/making challenges hard to do (i.e. time consuming).

If we limit the hours on Sat to game on at 10.30 til 4pm, r&r, evening game 6pm til 8pm, social and sleep, Sunday 9am til 12noon - 10.5 hrs gaming

Players booked while you were away - those that have paypaled money I have added to the list. Panther/Ed needs to be added when you receive his cheque.

Felt Sundays game- "just let it happen" was a bit weak compared to the things we could do .....& partisans are unneccesary complication IMHO .
Historically suggest we need to tie in a bit more .
-US and Brits raced up the Island pretty much apart
-Both airlandings were a disaster...the Brits nearly captured the bridge but were beaten off.
-Germans launched a large counter attack that nearly worked early on
, and then retreated across the coast to Italy rather than waste men .
-Need to get some attacking for the Germans as well , consider a night game .
Camping near the farm will be a logisical nightmare .

suggest site visit together as can't be assed typing it all out at length .

Ah, I was trying to keep the two forces separate as much as possible, maybe I haven't made that clear enough.

I've had a look through various historical documents and have tried to keep it as close as possible. Love your retreating comment.....airsofters retreat??? What? Rather than pointlessly blatting at trees for half an hour instead?! ;)

I'd love to do a site visit but I'm barely free until the actual game day now. If I can coincide it with a free weekend that'll be fine. August 9/10 or 16/17 are my only free dates at the moment.

I was trying to keep the Sunday game as simple as possible. Thinking about the other games we've organised we've inevitably had to adjust on Sunday for sore heads and tired limbs. Will have a think about it.

9th 10th is doable for me . Doesn't matter if they have a game on or not suggest meet up at Mold and have a wander round . Can confirm props required then as well.

LOL, live dangerously - it's the weekend before the game! Don't ask me for any props/signs 'cos the answer will be no!
