i really needs to be plastic drainpipe tony, the base will be made from ply or MDF, the barrier needs to be feather light and counter balanced on one end. plus it needs to be white ( i only have red and black paint left)

You may find out that making them lightweight just means they blow over easily .....ours are made from box section steel ...I'll let you guess how we found that out 
i was going to make a kind of box shaped base, that can be filled with ballast, bricks etc,,,,,,, with the pole on a hinge affair.
It's OK Nige, PBI are borrowing the CiA barriers so that will save a job for you.

GROAN........ if it helps i will, but its oil based gloss paint so it might not be workable by the start of play next morning. if anyone ruins their gear by getting paint on it, i refuse to take resposibility. the other scenario is to wrap it in red and white hazzard tape.
