We're running a WW2 theme day at Fireball Squadron next Feb 09 - been wanting to do it for a while and we confirmed the date at last weekends game.
Basic plot will be US / UK forces plus Maquis vs. Heer / SS / Fallies plus Miliciens. The Maquis and Miliciens are to make sure we can fully involve people who maybe don't have any WW2 gear. It's an all-dayer and we're aiming for 3-4 games of 1-2 hours each around a common theme / set of objectives.
We won't be running this to strict CIA rules e.g. you can use hi-caps but we are going to try and push people towards these and away from 'M4 Spray And Pray'.
This will be up on the site soon but you can put it in your diaries now
Sounds good HB, good to see more ww2 games coming up.
However just to clarify what seems to be a mis-understanding CIA doesn't ban hi-caps the key is the ammo limits 600 for genaral use and 3000 for deployed support weapons, if players choose hi-caps that's ok as long as they don't exceed the ammo limits so if you're going with this it should have the desired effect.
I look forward to more details
I appreciate the need for inclusiveness but I'd *love* to see more tightly themed more realistic games like Bryansk, Varsity, Eagle (ok fictional but i mean just yanks vs FJ).
Huskey was good as UK and US forces were pretty much seperate for most of it.
Its just you see it in re-enactment public battles too 'all axis vs all allies' which just never happened to be honest.
Even in battles where for example us infantry and UK infantry were at the same clash each company let alone nationality would be allocated their own sector with limits of exploitation. Its *very* rare for battalions in the same brigade to get mixed up and be fighting shoulder to shoulder let alone mixed nationalities.
The only strong example i can recall of this from memory is varsity where the 17th us airborne were misdropped on the same DZ as a UK para Battalion and did fight literally shoulder to shoulder.
Dont get me wrong i'm not being negative, i hope your game does really well HB and kudos to you for organising one and building the scene.
I'm just wondering (seeing as this is in general discussion) who else would be up for some games that are closer to re-enactment than simply skirmishing on a loose WWII battle theme.
So to re-cap:
Not a dig
Well done for doing it mate
Is *anybody* up for organising a battle thats say US infantry Vs Waffen SS etc
and...
watch this space for a 're-enactment battle (ala Varsity) in spring next year!
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Well, if 50 people agree to turn up in Waffen gear and 50 agree to turn up in US or UK airborne gear then... maybe
I'd be up for a more 'accurate' game but for Fireball in Feb, we've got to be as inclusive as possible so we're basing the game on a realistic scenario post-D Day when you did have mixed bags of Gerries against a mixed bag of Allies plus local Commies and Facists thrown in for good measure.
Hope to see as many CiA pals there as possible - nothing increases the scene like people playing in the gear or a decent TV series a la BoB (just wait and see how many USMC appear when The Pacific airs).
Remember: 1st Sat in Feb, Bassetts Pole, dress to impress
Good luck with it dude, if finances improve in the new year I may well be there (may well be there anyway if the boss wants it covered for the mag )
As i say i applaud you for getting it together and making stuff happen.
This scene will only grow if folk like yourself take the initiative...

I assume this will be on FB's regular open day (1st Saturday of the month).
I assume you're playing on the 32 acre woodland site. As someone who has organised three WW2 days at Fireball in previous years, see if you can convince the power that be to cap numbers at 50. More than that on that site and it'll just become a SISK (skirmish in silly kit) and a total blatfest.
For reasons I won't go into I won't be there, but good luck with it.
Say 'Hi' to Tin and Jonesey for me.

As someone who PLAYED at those games, I echo HS's comment on numbers. It got a bit silly with 100+ hicap toting airsofters. It'll be more exaggerated in February, when there's no bracken for cover.
Good luck with it though, I'm sure me and my Bro' will come (work depending) and say "hi" to some old friends like Paul "Quagmire" Norton, Tony, Jonesy, Tin, et al.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Paul 'Naughty' Norton!
Paul 'Naughty' Norton!
Lol, we had a lot of names for him! Top bloke.

Yes it's on the woodland site but trust me when I say there's plenty of cover! There's also some work going on and trust me when I say that if 100+ turn up (as did at the last weekend) there's plenty of space, lot's of mixed areas from heavy undergrowth to open fields of play.
Plus you can expect a few more changes now Ken has retired and the members run the show... Top bloke that Ken was (and we all miss him) but you've gotta embrace change
First ones are reasonable site fps limits at 328+10% and membership after four games.
Norty Nort Nort is secretary, you should see him in a blouse, short skirt and suspenders!
Ah, at last he has a semi legitimate reason for going on "the hun"!
If the under age, dpm, teflon, hicap mob are no longer in attendance, it makes a WW2 themed game much more "do-able" and potentially far more enjoyable (one of the reasons I stopped going to FB was the silly numbers). As I said, I'll be there, work permitting and I'm sure you'll get a fair few WW2'ers as well.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
I'll try and get there, duties allowing as ever

Hi again guys - long time since I've been on this forum, or attended a CIA game for that matter. I for one will definitely be there at the FB WW2 game - it is my local site, and I'm a member, and I would very much like to see a few more one day WW2 themed/reenactment stylee games to attend. I'm probably in the minority here, but I can very rarely do the big weekenders, which nearly all the CIA games have been, so I will definitely be supporting this 100%.
Can't see us being able to cap the numbers on this occasion, after all it will be held on a 'normal' Saturday and we are a walk-on site, no necessity to book a place etc. However, I would encourage everyone who can attend to do so, thereby improving the chances of the resulting game play being something we will all enjoy, and allowing the club to guage just how much interest there is out there so we can maybe arrange something more 'genuinely' WW2, and on a different day, in the future.
The gane now has a page on our website and posters were up for yesterday's game. We'll be handing out flyers at the next game in December and (this is the really good bit), if the day is well attended and deemed a sucess, we are talking about making this more of a regular thing. Just discussing at the moment but possibly a bi-annual event.
Here's the page on the website: http://www.fireballsquadron.com/?page_id=397 We plan to adopt the CiA look-alike rules for weapons and are gradually introducing the ideas that support weapon can't be used as a big AEG, modern guns should be scrimmed etc.
The more of you guys who come, the more chance we have of making this a regular thing!

Well said matey - I for one will definitely be there - let me know as and when you need a hand with the organising, more than happy to help. There is talk as well of the possibility of our hiring the site out for our own privately run games - a la First and Only - and being able to host a specifically WW2 game on one of the three spare Saturdays in the month. Maybe we could talk about it more in December -
Finally got my 2009 diary and it looks like I'm free for this (barring a CiA game on the same date!), so, me and my Bro' will be there in full Waffen SS kit, plus an MG42. It should be a laugh.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Fantastic. Looks like it should be a good turn out!
Any more updates for this? Just wondering if I should bring my lo cap equipped MP40, or my hicap PPSH41!

where in the world is it (how far from manchester?)
Just outside Birmingham. Easy peasy from the M6.
