I have been applying myself to what units we could portray for those of use who could be attending the Watch on the Rhine game.
Pending more detailed info from Chomley Warner I have come up with several possibilities that we could use all, some or none of.
There is
8th Battalion the Rifle Brigade - the motor battalion of the 11th Armoured Division
The troops of their infantry brigade the 159th. The 4th KSLI (popular choice with me!) 3 Monmouthshires and 1st Cheshires.
The 51st Highway Decorators are possible with various sorts of Highlander, Seathorths, Gordons, Camerons, Balck Watch and Argyll and Sutherland.
The 53rd Welsh division would also be possible as it includes a battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment which is appropiate for where the game is being played and the 1st Oxf. and Bucks whose sister battalion we portrayed at Varsity.
6th Airborne arrived as reinforcement for the counter-offensive in the early part of January 1945 so as I read the scenario they would not yet be present.
I know we can always go as SAS but as discussed here previously my preference is for line infantry so that is why I am making some suggestions early.

My vote is for 51st highland as i have the kit

Gah, he's gone and posted! I know you are all getting excited but as I promised, full game information will be forthcoming...

Don't take too long chommers... we will need time to get kit sorted for it!

British intro will be up by the weekend.
Monty has got to win this battle - don't let me down! As in the actual BotB the Brits will have to be organised, efficient and professional, since the Yanks weren't ![]()

I am glad I 'm going German, KILTS!!!
Can you imagine the fun the German snipers are going to have ![]()

Not a problem - kevlar sporrans, old trick but it works...

Kilts damn site more hardwearing than BD trust me, You wont feel shots hitting your kilt if its a proper war dept one.
(only pipers and officers wore kilts in NWE BTW)

Well looking at rupes Huskey vid they spent most of their time sitting down chatting or casually attacking the hun in ones or twos and getting shot to pieces....

What about Glengarrys? I always thought they looked very cool (or is that a WWI thing)?
lord lovats scouts it is then
Yeah glengarys were pretty much phased out in the field, its the tam o shanter we'd wear.

I'm hoping to make this game, dependant upon a mate being able to get it off work to attend & giving me a lift, it's a fair wee jaunt from Aberdeen. Making it my first CiA & PBI game
I'll have a complete Airborne kit by then, is the 51st HD kit the same as the 52nd? I think I could stretch to the windproof suit & I already have a MkII helmet & by coincidence my BD jacket has Gordon's patches already.
Scots inf kit is more or less Exaclty the same as our hallams kit.
Changes:
Tam o Shanter replaces Cap GS
Kilts worn by pipers and officers if they wanted to.
52nd lowland recieved the camo windproof suit en masse, pretty sure the 51st had the white version en masse for the ardennes, i know 6th airborne did.
Other than that, pretty much the same stuff as hallamshires.

Shame, I was liking the idea of an excuse that 'I had to get the windproof' ![]()
its still a good excuse.
windproof suit was on general issue from the winter of 43.
You dont see it in many pics of the suit as most are staged and it doesn't look smart and soldierly for the public back home.
However about 90 per cent of the pics i have of troops wearing it are 52nd div.
Now the question is are wwii ToS the same size as modern ones cos modern ones are easy to get.

Strangely I'd just been trying to check the same thing, I'm looking thorugh pictures trying to compare now.
Looks like they've gone the same way as the berets
British back-story now up.

Well Ox & bucks it is, guess that renders the Tam o' shanter research redundant
That's handy as a lot of Varsity "veterans" will have their Oxf & Bucks cap badges already.
It's almost like it's been planned or something.
Bagpipes might have been fun though.
