I know what you mean helga, but its the fact that in 1940's britain your average joe was under nourished, where as I am rather bigger. I am trying to represent an authentic look with my kit, but it all kind of go's out of the window when I am twice the size of the guys im trying to portray.

No I get what you're saying, completely. You only have to look at the reenactment world to see that you are by no means alone. Gratefully in 2007 we are not in the UK undernurished, we are not on the brink of starvation and no matter (well bar staving ourselves which would be silly (so don't anyone  ) what we do be more flushed in the cheek, more freshly washed, more fragent etc.

The point is of all these things, we have that choice. Who knows what the situation would have been had history not been written as it is ?

Don't stop yourself from being involved 'if' you want to be, there are other means by which you could attend an event should you wish not to wear a uniform ;) and where theres a will, theres a way around everything  ;) even if it were in a civilian type role. You could still partake if you think outside the box you're limiting yourself to 8)

PS you've a headstart on me anyways, I didn't leave the house for months

Ironic I'm looking at those too, sadly ebay yeilds sod all as I refuse to pay £15-20 postage for something when eventually there will be someone sell some locally that I can collect whilst on my way elsewhere

Anyways back on subject, civilians did help with enlistments or at least those in civilian clothing, thus the scope is opened and wandering around in that type of ensemble gives you more options ;) as well as resistance roles  for airsofting ;)

I've got some fashion plates somewhere on my PC that if you want to see I can email that maybes of use (30s mind) but they are handy for guidelines ;)in getting the right feel, and if you ever need stitch work help, I'm not wonderful but just ask ;)

Iv done sone research that way, and got a local taylor to knock me up a 2 piece suite, bit pricey, but not that much more than I would have paid for a sutlers stores 1937 BD set anyway. Got a nice trillby, and some shirts from a gents outfitters in london a few months ago, im looking for a pair of 2 tone brogues.

euthamol toothpast from wilcos, stockings from spar, lingeray from M&S, paperwork from Epson inkjet printer scanner combo, and perisables from local butcher day befour. rekkon thats about all I need int it?

Can I give you some input? With Jeremy and a few other mates we formed Angelicus Medieval Society mainly to do educational events and so on. We had to create a constitution, have an AGM/first meeting to elect officers, have proof of all of this then we got a bank account-Natwest is best for this-you have money coming in see? Then we got PLI insurance for £5 million -this is baseline to attend events like Military Oddessey etc. With that we then got 5k from National Lottery Awards for All (very nice) which enabled us to greatly extend our repertoire and get kit such as that advertised by todsstuff.co.uk (look and drool if you're into earlier periods) . So yup form a group -certainly- but watch out for politics and what have you....

Yeah, I've very much like us to concentrate on getting the airsoft sorted first before going anywhere with this.

Of course, naturally. The airsoft side of things is the root of the group,I was really just thinking aloud,as it were, with an eye on the future.

just as an idea why not try to have a formation meeting at the event in January????? Perhaps meet up Saturday to formulate a constitution, elect committee and all the other boring stuff that you tend to get with new clubs etc and then Sunday blow off steam by having a blatt of the Boshe?

Not a bad plan, let us have think about it.

I've been stupidly busy this weekend and only really just got PC access back to loads of mails and good ideas.
