Reenactment battle using AEGs/and gas/spring rifles.
i'm very keen to get a section of line inf together for this (units to be stated later but if we all had blank sleeves then its historically accurate)

Anyone else fancy it?

to be honest gadge no. from what i can gather, he has never done an airsoft battle before, he is looking at recruiting reenactors, for full on , very ambitious game 24 hour game play/living in the field in december.i admire his efforts but i thing its a bit abvanced for someone with no military experience of freezing your nuts off in 16 hours of darkness with no sleep. i hope it goes well, i really do, but its not for me. i have done this when being paid and i hated it then, twenty years of good living isnt going to make it look more apealing..... he is trying too hard, build up to something like this. if it was a CIA or PBI game then yes, but as i dont know the guy, and have no experience of him running anything i think i will have to pass. like forester has said before,if you guys want to try it, feel free, me.... i got my time in.

best of luck though, i hope its a winner.

Personally I'm up for it to try and support PDs efforts in getting a lot of re-enactors to stop thinking or airsoft as a dirty word.

i agree totally, but i think he is his own worst enemy for setting it in december, dark at 3:30( earlier under the trees) not light till after 9:00 in the morning, and a load of 40 odd year old blokes who can handle a rainy weekend under canvas in the summer....... i think he has tied his own noose TBH, unless its unseasonable mild and dry, and i hope it is, i think he will just put them off. they wont remember it was mid winter and the weather was to blame, all they will connect it to is airsoft. i really think everyone will end up sleeping indoors, and i dont blame them. he would have been better going for a single day, mid summer. two ex regs just turned this down, and i still spend time out on the hills over night in the winter. i have offered my services to guy for the jedburgh game for a day as staff/fetch and carry ( i cant do the full weekend, other comitments) . i just dont think he has thought it through.

LOL, he has thought it through!
It would be wrong to think of this as an airsoft event - it isn't. It IS living history though. Don't forget these guys have been doing this sort of thing for years - the only difference is that blank firing skirmishes are replaced by airsoft. It may be new to some airsofters but it isn't to reenactors. Oh. and it doesn't have anything much to do with public event type reenacting either!
I think it would be true to say if you don't like the possibility of getting wet, or want to be fighting 24/7 this isn't the event for you. Nor is it supposed to be.

Of course. But it would be wrong to think this event hasn't been thought through. I'm not trying to persuade you to come, it certainly won't be everyone's idea of a good weekend!

it would be my idea of heaven if it was CIA/PBI, ( cant do jedburgh) and in the summer, but tbh, i dont want to do a full weekend, in the cold, with an un-known entity running it. i can do the stagging on and off, patrol at 3am, but can the blokes around me commit to this? or will it be a yith type deal where he is the only one awake and nothing happens all night. no offence at all intended, but like i said, done that , been there . if i had you as a DS, it would be different.

PD certainly isn't an unknown entity! And these sorts of things have been going on for years - the only new bit is introducing airsoft weapons to give a bit more realism to battles as bone of contention seems to be hit taking with blank firers. Whether it will make a difference we have yet to find out!

While i wish PD success in his endeavour, i do think it'd probably be dropping most airsofter's in at the deep end, as it were.

36 hours in the middle of winter with only period kit is harsh, even for hardcore reenactors, and i'm not sure i'd fancy the sneers of the 'proper' reenactors for not having the correct haircut/being able to dig foxholes with my teeth, in 30 seconds flat, then eating said dirt for tea.

Anyway, this is all a moot point, as there's a 99% possibility i'll be in Mexico or Kenya for most of december.

So, good luck, but no ta.

I might have been tempted if I knew enough people who were going, don't do new people all too well, but I think it will be too early for me to get my British line 'impression' together for.

December does make me think 'crikey' a bit too.

I think everyone should think that. It wouldn't be an event to go to on a whim. Indeed with the option of going to Mexico or Kenya or to this event I know which I'd take like a shot!

December ain't that bad, weather-wise. Usually unbelievably mild as you automatically think December = winter. Days are short, for sure, and it may well be wet but meh, we got through Churchills OK.

unknown entity to me i should have said

Ah yes, I see. PD has been involved in reenacting for longer than is sensible. I'm sure you wouldn't even recognise him from original photos, even if you did know him!

like i said, if it wasnt for other stuff, i would have been the first on the list for jedburgh, volunteering to lead a 2 hour patrol out at 3 in the morning. but i just dont want to try this with someone i have no experience of. he might be a great guy with years of experience, but the guys i end up with might have had enough by midnight, and trying to motive people in the dark, early hours, when they are cold and fed up its like pissing the bed while your awake  , i have seen hairy arse regular soldiers get fed up and spit the dummy. i like my airsoft relaxed. but good luck and kudos to those that do it.

Location: Midlands. Paul has publicly given the location but I'm not sure he meant to, so I won't repeat it for the moment.

Well I've met PD once briefly and only really know him by reputation. That reputation has made me pretty convinced that he can pull this off and I'm seriously considering attending. However I'm still not 100% sure.

PD will be at Ariel and I hope he'll come to the social as otherwise I won't really get to meet him there either. I want to hear a damn site more about this event, not least which re-enactment groups have bought in to it already.

I am sceptical... I've seen this sort of thing done before and it's almost worked. I suspect PD can pull it off, but I need more convincing.

If it was a better time of the year for weather I'd have just said "Yes" straight off. December may not be as cold as Jan/Feb, but it sure as hell can be wet and dark.
