Looking forwards to seeing the rest of them.

erm... I was told by a VERY experienced re-enactor that that was the right side!! Hmmm...

Otherwise you can't do barrel changes aparently!

LOL, I just do as I'm told.

seen the pic of you with the Bren gun, looked good. Pity you are on the wrong side. You should have been on the other side so that if you get hit the gunner can get hold of the mags himself and still load the gun.

I always thought the bren no2 went to the left, if the no1 is hit he rolls away and the no2 grabs the gun.

As rich say you cant get at the barrel as well and its harder changing mags form the right as your right arm has to reach across your body.

I think the bren training manual will be on my list of things to find at Stoneleigh

I've now got the bren training manual and it doesn't specify which side the No2 goes on!

All it says is

No.2 will at all times keep the gun supplied with ammunition. He will place himself as near the gun position as cover will allow, so that he can carry out his duties of ammunition supply with the minimum movement and exposure, or, if required act as a rifleman.

No.2 will be in a position close to the gun from which he can assist No.1 in every way possible

It also does explain the barrel changing process, but again doesn't mention which side the No.2 should be on to do this.

What it does seem to say though is that the No.1 is the one who normally changes the mags... not the No.2.
