Watch out for this one.
Its either bullshit on his part or worse from his grandfather.
Alarms bells... 'Royal Airborne Regiment' never existed and I'd expect shoudl a clued up vet to tell him all these stories to know the name of his regiment.
Trunk containing of all things a flak jacket... now in WWII these were pretty fucking rare and for bomber crew...
'Ghillie suit' only really worn by canadians, its doubtful Brit paras ever wore them (equally gun wraps are modern)
The whole thing is suspect to be honest... especially finding a cache of small arms in the house an getting them deactivated in a week.... convenient eh?

He is only 16 so might be telling a complete fabrication. Having said that, his written English, grammar and construction is very good for a 16 year old so either it is a wind up or he has the benefit of a public school education!!
which I first thaught was a pay book or something as it has atleast 50/60 lines/marks in it. After asking my grandad he said it was a tally for how many "Axis" personel he had accounted for
This sounds very odd - would any one person kill that many Germans? And have the time to write it all down?
His reply to my reprimand (which is fair enough):
I'm sorry, I also discovered that I hadn't read some of the rules.
I'll repost a new "Clean" version of my previous post.
And for the record, his original post:
Hello guys, Im new here as you can tell.
My names Jack, Im 16 and I've just gotten into WW2 Re-enacting.This is my story of why I'm now a collector and enthusiast of WW2 Militaria and re-enacting:
I kept looking for many months at different regiments which I could emulate and after a while I started to look at the Royal Airborne/Parachute regiment (Now the Parachute regiment) as my grandfather was a "Sharpshooter" (as he puts it) with them that traveled between many allied sides one being the 101st airborne division. He told me a little of what he did but doesnt like to talk about it, after helping move a few things into his loft I found a trunk filled with old WW2 documents, magazines, ration packs, ammo-boxes (Some still filled with ammunition), clothing, boots, webbing, holsters and a gas mask box. I walked around the other side of the trunk messing with a few other boxes as he went down stairs and I opened a rusted-over lock which broke off easily and I discovered a box filled with camo-netting, ghille suit, gun wraps, scopes, jump holsters, canteen and both a fairburn-sykes and a MK3 trench knife with the "Brass knuckles" on, and at the bottom of the box was a Colt 1911a1 (Still in leather 101st leather jump holster has US impressed into it, which has a big rip in it), SMLE No4 1942.
He does also own a Sten MKII somewhere else in the house yet has lost it, This greatly interested me so I checked there were no rounds in the barrels and carried both the 1911 and the SMLE down stairs to ask what they were... thats when I found out about what he was in WW2.
I now use all of his webbing, netting, helmet, ghille suit and other stuff for my re-enactments.So... thats my story, thanks for the read.
Sounds even less likely in the full version.
Yeah i've got a Sten but i 'lost' it, think it might have fallen down the side of the sofa while i was single handedly saving the world...
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
The more i read it the more i'm convinced its utter pipe dream inspired by too much call of duty...
A sniper with a no4 (not a no4T then) and a sten and a pistol and a 1911... allowed to take them home in case his son needed them?
I did consider turning up to Catterick garrison for my Combat Infantry Course with my uncles old SLR over my shoulder and my granddads luger but the DS told me they would supply me with a lovely new gun so i left mine at home.... arooga... warning will Robinson.
Add to that as Evo points out any non de-ac full auto found now would be crushed or chopped into tiny pieces not de-activated in a week (it take smonths to have the process done including paperwork)
And lastly if our illustrious sniper who can remember the name of the US unit he worked for (yeah right) but not his own *was* issued a flak jacket (as given to static bomber crews because of their weight) then why?

Perhaps it was some 'creative writing' school essay - he has recycled it for use on this forum!
Why don't you drop him a PM and ask him to verify his story? If you are not happy with the reply them we just remove him from the forum, no probs.
Ah no, I'm going to sit and wait.
Im not that fussed, I'll see what his normal posting is like and give him enough rope first.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Is there a wider argument here to limit the forum's age to 18 and over? Not that you can prove it in any way, but it might make some of the younger users think twice.
Fair point.
Personally I'm just going to carefully shadow his posts and if he says anything blatantly untrue or misleading and ask some friendly questions.
But knobend stuff like saying he has a house full of live ammo we have to stamp on _
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Yeah... I couldn't find a Royal Airborne Regiment either.
There's a Royal Canadian Airborne Regiment though....
His grandfather being Canadian would make the ghillie and regiment more plausible but his quoted phrase from his grandfather refers to 'Tommies', we also claims his father has had over ten years service as a fighter pilot in the RAF with both fixed wing conventional and Vtol.
I'm dubious anyone fast and sharp enough to be a fast jet pilot in the falklands (82) [and so few of them with his real surname i could find out in half an hour if his dad *was* there or not] would be flying jaguar (pretty much a bomber) in 91 for the Persian Gulf fraca.
Hmm I think i've been on ARRSE too long watching the walt hunting thread... none of this is important and im sure the lads harmless but i'd be interested to see how long he's about.
Oh half term started this week i believe....

So he's a WALT ? So what ?
Fecking hell you'd have to ban half the airsofting world if that was the case
He'll either slip up and make a twat of himself in which case the regulars will hound him out, or he'll settle down and be a useful member. Plus don't assume that everyone on here is as knowledgable as you , I couldn't tell you if Royal Airbourne was wrong or not , so why should he .
It's enthusiasm or waltery , either way give the guy 10 posts to prove he's going to be a useful member .
PS Getting him to post some pics will prove if he's genuine or not .
PPS Could be some twat from the reenacting world playing for the stitch nazis ...oh look how stupid airsofters are .....though even that is ok to me , I don't care for his opinion or that of people who might think its amusing .
So he's a WALT ? So what ?

.
Neither the point nor my verdict Guy.
My point was that its 99 per cent likely a waste of everyone's time and 'fabrication'.
I was just 'iceberg spotting' a potential issue - something I've been proved right about several times in the past (Gunman et al)
I'll hunt walts on ARRSE should i chose to, i'm quite happy to let them be on here.
With regard to 'Royal Airbourne' (sic) its more a case of things not adding up from the first sentence.. and while I dont expect you to know if Royal Airborne is correct i do expect someone choosing to re-enact it having done the most cursory of research to know its a fabrication.
And as in the initial post.. dodgy from the lad in question, far worse if his grandad is telling him big porkies...
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Ah well , as I said suggest let him hang himself if he's a nobber, most people can spot when members are ignoring the first rule of CIA
Still reckon you get a feel within 10 posts for a newby ...
