I see the logic behind it but £85 is ridiculous

Surely just a higher proportion non-refundable deposit would work.

Indeed, he was frustrated by the no-shows but equally some folk didn't want to commit to paying £65 so far ahead.

£85 is outrageous - expect to see adjustment to his plan in time!

I heard many complaints about the value of the weekend, so £85 won't get much uptake methinks.

As in kermits thread i feel £45 is a fair price.

When you consider CR was much much more game time better props imo and better organised and was what £35?

I know cia is non profit but then again you dont make a profit if you over price yourself.

20 players a side at £65

or 200 in total at £40?

i know what i'd go for... especially seeing as his expensive outlays in the field guns and trucks are now already done

jesus

now hes running a wwii event a month more or less for £45 and offering free places ot the germans wiht the same props and facilities as d-day

surely someone will ask why they have to pay 20 quid more for the d-day one....

oh and the first one clashes with f&o....

Old Chinese proverb says never stop your enemy when he's making a mistake.

He's not an enemy, but he's deffo got the wrong idea.

Hmmm, rather than big games he appears to be going for low numbers at the Tudd site, which is our market.

Having said that, he is going to run out of players rapidly and end up with just his local regulars.

The free German idea is plain silly, basically saying it's a US game with the other side just for shooting at.

I don't see any of this as a threat at all, once he has run out of steam/looking for the next big idea we will still be there with our dedicated enthusiasts...

Well despite sort of seeming to relaise that there isnt a market for eight gunman weekenders a year.

He's put his Nov d-day - carentan game on at a whopping £85 quid.

Cant see him having many takers myself.
Now i had really big chat wiht Josh last month and we talked mainly about his sci fi event but also discussed in a very friendly way what we thought was sustainable for a frequency of wwii events, now i really thought he was seeing that maybe two weekenders a year and one or two dayers was the way forwards...

Most I've ever paid for an event is £75 and that was Sennybridge...

As much as I'd love to attend, money is now tighter than it was then and I feel that I just can't afford it.

It is a very expensive site for him and he won't be making a huge amount on it - esp. with the low numbers he is likely to get at that price.

The thing is, there still isn't a high enough player base to warrant more than five 'proper' games a year - and I fear that 'training days' with all their plus points are also a factor in reducing the potential game attendance.

We have already seen players come and go within the year - we need 200+ players who have kit and are able, mobile and willing to play (as opposed to 450 forums members most of whom look and talk but don't play.

We've still a long way to go...

Even Stubblehopper, one of our most dedicated forum users, doesn't turn up to game days! When he does it's only for a few hours.

We were planning on two training days a year, maybe one is wiser...

We'll just see what happens... if we get a load of extra people who want one then we do one... otherwise there's no need.

I'd say so. They're of limited benefit, other than social, and take potential players away from proper game days, which is why you train in the first place, no?

Also with SH taking them over so much it takes away from the bonding element.

I think what the ss and Uk training days so far is to take wwii airsoft that little bit over skirmishing into the fringes of living history by learning period drills and tactics rather than dressing like ss but playing like delta force.

I think we found at the PBI event that the 10 players there enjoyed it a lot and wanted that depth.

I thught i'd bore everyone silly with footdrill but everyone enjoyed it.

Similarly the axis guys enjoyed learning German orders etc.

Not everyones cup of tea but definatley a market there which isnt catered for by nornal skirmishing.

Yeah... if people like 'em then they have as much relevance as actually going to the games themselves... However I wouldn't want them to be more important.

Training days could be a way to give the people who want to live in the field for a weekend what they want. No need to actually have enemy there, just sleep, eat and train as if they were in the '40s for a weekend... I'll be doing this with TFSS later in the year and it is fun... more re-enactment than airsoft, but if that's what people want then I'm willing to help make it happen.

Not everyone's cup of tea of course...

Absolutely - it wasn't that chaps don't enjoy the training days (and I really did enjoy the PBI one) but that the more there is to do, the more players will pick and choose.

Cost and location are major factors of course - in the 'early' days chaps came from Guernsey to the Midlands 'cos there wasn't a choice. As the market gets saturated they would need a really good reason to the East Midlands when a game at Ground Zero is much closer.
