Yup... right now I need a good reason to leave Derbyshire... lol!
The idea of travelling more than 30 minutes to an airsoft site puts me off quite a bit...
Training days could be a way to give the people who want to live in the field for a weekend what they want. No need to actually have enemy there, just sleep, eat and train as if they were in the '40s for a weekend... I'll be doing this with TFSS later in the year and it is fun... more re-enactment than airsoft, but if that's what people want then I'm willing to help make it happen.
Not everyone's cup of tea of course...
This is kind of what I thought the training days were supposed to be. A group of people dressing the same who could hang out for a bit, talk about what they want to do and play a little bit against one-another to test their skills.
I never expected there to be actual enemy there.
Cost and location are major factors of course - in the 'early' days chaps came from Guernsey to the Midlands 'cos there wasn't a choice. As the market gets saturated they would need a really good reason to the East Midlands when a game at Ground Zero is much closer.
Game quality will be one. I know that, bringing this back on topic, I wouldn't pay £85 to play at Josh's Carentan game, I'd rather spend the money travelling to a better game elsewhere, however other people will need convincing about that I guess, especially when time off work is also an issue.
I think the training days so far have really been about just enhancing the experience at the game days... (except SH seems to want to have a photoshoot all day )
They could do more... and probably should as we become more experienced... If they players want to do it!

True enough, but it's about choices - be it quality, cost, time, travel - whatever. We have a tiny pool of players, to small to support the quantity of events planned for the year, hence Josh being the first casualty (not shedding any tears, but we are suppose to be expanding the popularity aren't we?). There is expanding interest but not an expanding player base. Maybe the AI magazine stuff will bring people who don't use forums and web sites...
Arghh this is becoming a habit but I keep finding myself agreeing wth Gareth ! ( It was easier when we were at logerheads

I think the essence of the TDs should be to get players to know each other and to foster more of the living history thing . If they go expecting an enemy , how is it different to any other game . I loved the idea you did drill at the PBI one , great idea for getting people to think like soldiers and less like airsofters . Without the pressure of a game, you get more time to go into the history and detail thats otherwise lost. I've only been to the first SS one , it was learning about the kit and how to errect zelts etc that got me interested, not mucking around with snap ambushes .
I would also consider making them invite only . It would differentiate them and make it more unit specific.
There's nothing to stop the sames sides acting as opfor . Every other army trains that way.
Re Longmoor -can't go into detail , but basically Josh got raped to get hold of Longmoor , I would suspect at least half of the fee is going to Ambush .

Thats what we did most of the time at the brit TD! (SH was too busy with his photos... lol)
Seriously, I think we'll do it on our own next time.

That would be my thought as long as you could muster 15 or so .
Well if F&O won't let us do it with such small numbers there's a re-enactor guy I know who has offered a load of land to be used for re-enacting training down near stoke. The only rule... no bangs or shooting.
Oh and its free.

.
you know what, once again i'm going to agree with you lol!
I think a training day, maybe 'invasion training' with yanks and brits would be great. The only possible downer i can see is that four or five players will have to choose one or the other when they do both brit and us.
But it would be wonderfully authentic!
