Right, I've spoken to Andy @ UCAP, and i'm off down there for a shufty on Sunday. He reckons that the site could hold 60 to 70 people. Personally, id rather go with 25 max a side. The layout of the place is a grid pattern, rather than a linear set of tunnels, so chokepoints can be worked around (nowt worse than some bugger camping on a corner!)
He's amenable to the way we work, as his interest doesnt cover the WW2 period, and i've got some extra brownie points as one of my colleagues on AI gave him a good site review. If required, i'll charm him a bit by covering his modern-era "Tora Bora" game later this year for the mag (yeah, it'll cost me a day off, but if i need some leverage, it'll be worth it!)
Some of the "tunnels" are actually enlarged to room size. And there may be some barriers we can use to change the layout a bit.
Have a look at http://www.ucap.co.uk/ and tell me what you think.

Looks awesome. Is it all on one level?
I personally have never seen the attraction of 'CQB' and I can't really get a grip on how large numbers would work. I imagine the tension would be ring tightening if there were only 5 a side!
But the environment is right and with the right atmospherics and scenario it should be great!
Lots of info about the site here. Just to give you a flavour of it. Be kinda cool to play in a place that was actually built and used during WW2

You want paranoia and tension? Imagine that you're a sole Allied player left to guard an intersection - and you can hear the sound of 15 pairs of metal shod Jackboots coming down the tunnel towards you
A game like this should work on building up the tension as much as possible...

Sounds good. But I don't like your bias. Imagine being the last Kraut, cyanide in hand, listening to the sound of nothing as the Allies move quietly and covertly to your position to try and stop you committing suicide so we can hold you to trial for international war crimes.
If you can get the Brit side of the Allied team to move quietly in hobnailed boots in a concrete floored tunnel, it would be one helluva acheivement on its own, let alone them capturing themselves one live Kraut at the end of it
Strangely enough though, you've given me an idea for a mission. The Jerry CO that must be captured before he can get to his cyanide pill and top himself....

I'll ask at chemists for some, next time I'm passing.
Are you planning on filling the place with WRNS & WAAFS - please?
This young lady perhaps??
Any young lady, frankly.
Have you seen the majority of women involved with Airsoft?
Now, if you wanted to turn it into a "Dungeon of Horrors", we'd be good-to-go...
**edit**
For those that cant be arsed to look at UCAPS website, here's a site map. Those are some loooooooong tunnels. The black areas on the map have been filled with concrete IIRC, to stop the buildings above subsiding.

Doesn't matter too much what they look like, a uniform and a gloomy tunnel, jobs a good 'un.
Any hole, down the hole, in the dark neh !
OK the site looks intersting , are we going ot do a Crystal maze event or some Dungeons and Dragons? sorry that meeting last night has not worn off yet .
Is there some stuff above ground ot fight over or is in once in the tunnel all in the tunnel . ?
Any ideas about a plot ?
All underground. Haven't thought of a theme yet, but i'm sure one of us will. I think inspiration will strike as i'm wandering around it on Sunday

Okey dokey. Had my meeting with Andy @ UCAP this morning, and a nice guided tour (sorry, no pics from me - fucked if i'm using a 500 quid camera DURING a game - but there's plenty of pics on the link i've put in one of my previous posts) I said i'd chat to you guys, then ping him over an email in the near future to firm things up.
In no particular order, things that came up:
1: He's perfectly happy to have it run the same way that BoTB and Arnhem were run.
2: The site runs regular Sundays every other week, we can use one of the "off weekends"
3: September is good for it (fits in nicely between CR and a "late year" event that way)
4: He's happy to open the site up on Saturday, for a: set dressing b: people to kip over
5: Helmets (though not compulsory) are highly recommended
6: There are facilities on site, and he stocks TLSFX grenades, plenty of gas, and BB's as well
7: Standard day price is

Sounds good all round .
Dates need to be confimred , the Q still remains are we doing a Falaise Gap in August? , if so then early Oct may be best for this with a possible veiw to the "possible" event in November followed by a Bulge in December ? Gadge was keen ot do a "big" Italy in September so maybe have this as an August game with smaller numbers?
Having taken the tour today, i don't see this as a CiA Lite type of game. It's going to take a fair old bit of planning - and the site really is something special. Woodland is woodland, Urban is urban. This is the biggest underground Airsoft site in the UK, and most likely, the biggest official Airsoft site in Europe. This site deserves the full CiA treatment.
One thing i forgot to say before, is that i'd limit the number to 25-30 a side.
Personally, after CR, I feel that 2 more events for the year is a good number.
Just need to work out *which* two events.....

Does indeed sound awesome. You mentioned flashlights - is this place not all lit? And I assume radios are out of the question for organisation POV?
If it is to be a 'biggy' then and it is underground then it would be a prime candidate for a poor weather game - Jan/Feb next year?
A woodland game for autumn this year (whether Webby's or Gadge's)
Not all the site is lit, so flashlights are required. Regarding radios, i cant imagine that they'd work too well down there. Time wise, i'm easy on when we run it. Yes, it's perfect for playing in shite weather, but i'd rather not do it in January. Too many people are skint after Christmas. Febuary at the earliest.
One thing that does concern me is that if there are too many WW2 games, then people are going to start to get very choosy about which games they do. Which could reduce headcount.
For example, the rest of this year, there's CR, SYA's WW2 bash, Josh's gig, and thats before we chuck in autumn and winter games.
CiA Games should be highlights of the WW2 Airsofter's calender, not "just another WW2 game" IMHO.

Absolutely Jay. One of the reasons why we need to widen the player base. We can't rely on 'our' 100 players to come to every game - whether that be overkill (too much choice), financial or geographic.
