Bearing in mind this is going to be a 24hr game with lots of walking involved I'm veering away from using my high shiny boots as I'm nervous about their long term comfort.

We are now thinking about our Brit DMS boots plus long putees as in this picture from Front of Russia -

Can someone confirm if putees are OK for WWII please?

They are.

Though I guess towards the end of the war the production of boots met the demand.

Puttees can be a pain too so I've discovered :x

More of a pain than trousers flapping about, and getting snagged on a branch/tree ?

I'm wearing putties with my BCH Anne/Barrie :)

Here's a link to a Soviet medic's recollections of war

We wore puttees, those heavy kirza boots (a high boot using an impregnated tarpaulin fabric in lieu of leather) came only in the end of '42

The trick with putting on puttees is to re-roll them so the cloth tie is in the middle of the roll rather than on the outside. That way you can unroll them around the calf without getting all tangled up and the cloth tie ends up where it should be. They should be wrapped much tighter than in the FoR picture and the top inch of the puttees are rolled over to hide the cloth strap. Background B&Q kitchen units are probably also optional.

I was wearing them for the photo shoot for this game. They're ok but they do come undone regardless of how well you think you've put them on. BUT they are surprisingly warm and comfortable when on. I will probably be wearing these. If they piss me off too much I'll just take them off and show off my nice non period Magnums :D

Cheers everyone.

Will probably buy a couple of cheapo pairs and sew them together to get the length if the Front of Russia chap doesn't come back to us in time.

From the photo it looks like his ones are actually 2 pieces sewn together - you can see the join.

At a push what about some 50mm upholsterer's cotton webbing?
