as is know I'm a tight wad
(comes from living in Yorkshire ;0 Anyways I'm hoping someone or more than one someone may read this and give me an opinion if the below fabric is the right shade
a link with pic of the colour am hoping is similar .... note the picture is just for comparison
as it was the best piccy I could find nearest the colour of the fabric
the fabric ... it is a smidge darker than in this picture its so hard taking piccies of fabric ffs it just sits there and doesn't play to the camera
Anyways I've possibly come up with a way of making something for a Ruski ensemble should the fabrics be classed as OK for airsofting ......
edited to add if its concured to be ok the ensemble will have cost me a whopping £2.50
Quality control was not on the Russian manufacturers minds during wartime, definitely not for colour (The nice gentleman from the NKVD with the colourful hats made sure of that), Colours varied from green to khaki from batch to batch and from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Your material; I'd say, at first glans, it does not look thick enough and the weave not coarse enough for a Telogreika winter garment. The colour is okay for pair that's seen action a few times. A Gymnastiorka and Sharovari from this material will probably do fine, but it might not be warm enough depending on which season you will be playing in.
If you are doing a Gymnastiorka, be sure to get the front buttons and holes on the correct sides for a woman's shirt. Russian Officers did not approve of females wearing men's clothing.
I hope that helps a bit,
Rick

Ah you see you're missing the cunning plan bit it wouldn't be that as its own as a layer hmmmmmm
its merely how to say the outer layer for appearances
So, you are going for the Telogreika padded jacket and/or trousers then.
Sure, I don't see why that wouldn't work with the proper stuffing (phoar .)
The colour is no problem. Though I the material will look a bit thin on the pockets perhaps.
Let me know if you need some measurements/photos, I've got a size 3 one hanging around here somewhere.

Ah yes measurements would be fantabulous ps I picked up a very modern styled one (fishing esq) for very little today that can be covered with a suitable fabric (whitch I already had) and quilted to give the same effect
thus the only issue is colour and I guess how wide the quilted stitches are apart
Ta Flibs
The vertical lines of stitches are 2,5 inches apart.

Fanks will set to work next week or week after once kids are back at school and will post piccies as I go along if I remember
THY ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND EVEN HERE IN RUSSIA,WHERE I LIVE.I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THEM.BECAUSE OF NEW FABRICS THAT HAVE COME TO RUSSIA,MORE AND MORE WORKMEN ARE NOT WEARING THEM ANYMORE.WHEN YOU DO FIND THEM THEY ARE IN VERY BAD CONDITION AND NOT WORTH THE TIME TO REPAIR.
TWO WEEKS AGO I FOUND A DARK BLUE TELEGRIEKA AT OUR FLEA MARKET,IT IS NEW AND I GOT T FOR $6.00 IN US DOLLARS.ITS IDENTICAL TO THE ISSUE IN WW2.SOME SOVIET SECURITY UNITS WORE THEM AS WELL AS BALTIC SAILORS.AT MANY MARKETS HERE YOU WILL FIND OLD WOMAN STANDING AROUND SELLING THESE COATS THAT ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE WAR AND SOVIET ISSUE,BUT WITH MINOR SHORTCUTS.I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED IF I COULD JUST GIVE THEM A OLD ONE AND HAVE THE DUPLICATE IT!! THE ORIGINAL MATERIAL FOR ALL THESE UNIFORMS IS IN BIG ABUNDANCE,LEFT OVER FROM SOVIET TIMES.
MY WIFE FOUND A COMPANY HERE THAT STILL HAS THE KHAKI AND DARK BLUE TELEGRIEKAS IN STOCK,BUT THE PRICE PREVENTS ME FROM RE SELLING AT A REASONABLE PRICE.
i LIVE IN A CITY IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSSIA,AND SO I HIT THE MARKETS EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.I THINK SOME OF YOU WOULD JUST DROP DEAD TO WHAT I HAVE SEEN FOR SALE HERE.I THANK MY LUCK I FOUND THIS FORUM,AS I AM LEARNING WHOLE LOT OF THINGS I DID NOT KNOW.PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM ARE SIMPLY THE BEST I HAVE FOUND,AND I HOPE TO SEE MORE IN THE FUTURE.YOU MAY ASK ME ABOUT OTHER THINGS,I WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL. Comrade, I feel like I have just been questioned by SMERCh, ( except I'm still alive... ) Please... STOP SHOUTING!, we can read lower case inferior Latin script.
Urrah!.
My eye sight is bad from reading military documents in bad light for the 20 years, but I shall make the appropiate corection once I return to the land of the frre in a month or so.love your postings.
I have met some of these SMERSH guys from the war, they are a tough lot, most sadly to say they have passed on,as they had a reputation as heavy drinkers!! My wifes uncle died 3 months ago he was in the NKVD.He was in the Ukraine hunting down nationalist forces. He was one of the nicest, kindly man I have ever met!! He spent most of his time in his garden puttering around talking about his veggies. His eye sight was very poor as well as his hearing. He was drafted afer the Kursk battle and stayed in until 1947.
My wife said that he suffered from depression very bad. This is a very un talked about subjetc here in Russia,s the Soviets played this denial game for years. He told me they used to capture these guys and just simply dispatch them and go back and do paperwork, and drink!!In 1950 he built his own house raised 3 kids and died in the same house, his wife still lives there, she told me much about the German prisoners they had working around them, and how they thought it was un cultured that they took off there shirts when it was hot!! But they were kindly, smart and did everything to detail. They also were VERY popular with the woman!! I just want to say this is a great treat for me to learn more from all of you,and I apologize for being a little candid. Ian
