They were both found on ebay which seems to be your best bet (for availablity and cheapness. HOWEVER be very wary of the term WWII in your searches as a lot of the Ukranian sellers will slap it around to make things sell and they're nothing like WWII.

Cheers, this is the problem i'm finding, i've seen several 'Russian WW2' helmets on ebay, all of which look different! i'm assuming a lot are just random eastern european post-war stuff, so i'm wary.

As far as I remember, the Russian tin helmet hasn't changed much since the 1930's. I have one somewhere, buggered if I know where. I think, like the M1, you would get away with a modern or 1960's repainted.

DM just wondering if you're order has turned up yet from Front of Russia, thought I'd read somewhere that you had placed an order with them for you and Gadge?

Not turned up yet, i got an email from Alexey the other week saying it'd been dispatched, with a scan of the poastal receipt attached.

Mind you, not that i can read Russian, it could be a receipt for his weekly shopping at Asdarov...

when it arrives i'll be posting pics anyway!

Here's our Russian kit then comprising the following.

Greatcoat from http://www.rusmilitary.com/html/shinel_coat.htm for £39.
Serbian (?) helmets from Beltring £5 (also all over the place on ebay).
Canvas belt from Sabre Sales about £5.
Barrie's shiny boots from the dressing up box.

That's just £50 for the lot, and if you come with a friend, you only need one gun between you too, because we all know the Russians sent their soldiers into combat without guns don't we.

Re-enactors might want to look away now as the following pictures may cause distress.

Can't say I not a bit disappointed - where's the cat?

Great look there B&A. I nearly picked up one of those belts at Sabre myself and then thought better of it - I'd only use it as an excuse to built another impression.

We'll have to organise a Russian game now!

I've already got a telogreika, but those Shinel's look darn good....hmmm.

The Czech helmets are okay too, but the liner is different, I thought it was higher in the shell (visible by 3 small studs on the outside). Won't pass for re-enactment, but great for airsoft, I paid a whole 10 Euros for one. :)

Posted these earlier on another thread, just thought I'd stick them back here in this section, looks like we could get seven or eight people together for a Russian front game, a small scale "enemy at the gates" senario would be ideal with just one full squad per side.

This is my mate nick, who'd be willing to come along, Frontschwein and myself would add another two, we'd be using captured German weapons and equipment, which is what the Russians did, we'd look the part at least. Just need a venue for a small Ostfront game, any ideas! The kit cost £15 for the shirt (gimnasterka) same for the trousers, a fiver for the helmet, and the Mosin pouches were also a fiver, of course we've already got the captured German gear, but this has to be the cheapest possible impression to get.

Ooooooo Nice kit and good price too. I didn't know that the Soviets used captured Kar98s. I know they did with MP40s (and bizarrely the Germans prized the PPSh41) but... meh its airsoft. :)

As with anything WWII your size has a great bearing on cost (personally I had to pay over the odds as WWII was entirely fought by midgets).

As for an Ostfront game... Lets just say Im workin on it ;)

Got this rig for myself, its supposed to be an original ww2 bandsman's uniform, it is better quality than the other stuff I've got, bought it from an ebay site in the Ukrain for $25 included tousers, shirt, helmet and pilotka again using capyured German gear, pistol, binos, mapcase and an old leatrher belt that's past its sell by date.

all from frontofrussia, i've got a greatcoat and an ushanka to go with it too.

Also got a steel helmet via diggah, when i've butchered the liner to fit my melon head. :D

Gadge, here's a link for a Gimnasterka tunic, only £16, I got one of mine from here, and it was delivered very quickly.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Soviet-Russian-Gi ... dZViewItem

the helmets I got off ebay as well by just searching about, here's one which is in poland, it has a modern liner though. http://cgi.ebay.de/STAHLHELM-POLEN_W0QQ ... dZViewItem
and here's another

http://cgi.ebay.de/Russischer-Stahlhelm ... dZViewItem the second one has the oringinal liner still intact, these normally go for about 10-15 Euro

Accepting that in airsoft you have to take what's available to you there are a couple of popular misconceptions here.....

In the last 10 years or so I've only seen one picture of a regular RKKA infantryman carrying a Kar98k. I've actually seen more pictures of Mg34s in use with the Red Army, though still only a handful.

Mp40s - it was liked because it was light* something that was solved with the adoption of the PPS42/43. You just don't see that many. As slightly in excess of 6 million sub machine guns of all types were made by the USSR versus German production of 1.2 million sub machine guns during the war you can understand why.

*The Mp40 was popular with the Razvedchiki for another reason.....Red Army reconnaisance was ALL sneaky beaky. They didn't do the 'fighting for information' schtick. However, if you were rumbled or bumped a Shpagina or Sudayeva has a distinctive sound. So, if you've got one of your enemy's weapons he doesn't know whether to fire at the sound or not......

All numbers are sourced from the Red Army Handbook by Zaloga and Ness
