Matt I'd suggest changing it to a ribbon that's less contentious. There may still be vets who have been awarded this medal alive, especially with more people interested in having these ribbons on a dress uniform. All of the other battle honour ribbons are pre 1900 and campaign awards, not for chivalry or gallantry , so theres no chance of over stepping the mark as it were.
This is the honorary ribbon for the Royal Victorian Order. It's still being awarded nowadays.

is it just me or is it not that important?

Now a 'namsofter. I have an M72 L.A.W. for sale for 110 posted, PM if interested.
I'll take a look at it. Wont be up until the evening though as i've got meetings all day.

To you maybe not... But just wait till you have a Veteran who earned that medal biting your head off..
It could happen.

Or you both could just explain to him, without being self righteous, why we don't use them. 101 is neither stupid nor disrespecful, which is more than can be said for the prior two posts.
I fail to see how either mine nor Jon's posts were stupid or disrespectful. Especially mine!
I too thought that Yith had explained it without any disrespect?
However in explanation - I too do not find it that important, but I acknowledge that some people do. If someone is awarded a medal for an achievement they may find it offensive that we are wearing the same medal without ever having to do what they did to earn it.
Using a medal ribbon for which there will be no living recipients significantly reduces the chance of offending someone who we all, I would think, would not like to offend.
No disrespect at all.
The whole "battle honours" thing was supposed to be a bit of fun and Dieselmonkey specifially looked for early 19th Century ribbon colours so as not to offend or draw ridicule.
Agreed it's a bit of a double standard as lots of Axis players wear ribbons and campaign cuff titles as part of their uniform but it was generally agreed that choosing "long dead" ribbons for forum sigs was the better thing to do.
If it's not important then why not go the whole hog and choose a Victoria Cross ribbon? Or a Medal of Honor?
no, i understand, im not a retard, im saying, the reason why i play ww2 airsoft is in respect of those guys, so im wondering why, we wear all the kit they wore, but not the medals?
we can purchase them from websites and have the real deal, but a computer generated one your saying is disrespectful... i dont get it.

yep, you can buy them, but would you wear them in public? this forum is in the public domain. airsoft gets enough bad press from some quarters without upsetting medal winners. anyone from the PBI remember the old fella in the parachute regiment uniform with the VC ribbon on? how well did that go down with everone there?
places like war n peace show, infact all military fairs, people wear them. i know for a fact most people have jumpwings on their jumpsuit if your portraying a para.
theyre public places.

And I know what a lot of people say about the people who do that as well. I'd rather not be on the receiving end thanks.
then why hold back? give yourself the CMH. it means nothing to me, but it would say a lot about the nature of the person wearing it. i would rather delete the ribbons on my avitar than upset someone who has actually done something to earn one. but thats just me.
I think this has been blown out of proportion somewhat.
People do wear them on their uniform at things like WAP etc, I dont think thats a particularly bad thing as it is a re-enactment, fact is we're portraying units which would have been awarded them. In my opinion, giving out battle honours for games we've played which may infringe on awards given to recent recipients as much as veterans, is sorta where I think the line should be drawn.
So:
Wearing a purple heart and a bronze star or jump wings on a 101st Jumpsuit, great because you're portraying the living this history of somebody back in the 40's,... awarding yourself a medal which is still in use/may still be used by ventrans, not so great, as the award has been given for not doing the same amount of whatever as they did back then.
Hope that makes sense?
i aprieciate that , but to me jumpwings, bronze star and purple heart were medals anyway?
and scaleyback honestly, no need to get arsey about it. i was just trying to work it out.

not getting arsy lad, want to know about my medals and why i dont wear them? i might tell you one day. you do what you want, its not my place to say what you can or cant do, all i am saying is medals are a very sensative subject with veterans, do we really need nasty posts and e-mails from the british legion?
I didn't notice him getting arsey about it?
As far as I can see this has been a very sensible and polite conversation.
If it hadn't been I'd have had to moderate it, which I haven't!
