Operation Galvanic was on the go, American forces had managed to start their landings among Tarawa Atoll part of the Gilbert Islands, but things have changed from other landings which faced very little Japanese resistance or none at all, this time the japanese were well trained, well supplied and dug in and ready to make the Americans pay for every inch.
our game is set on the small island of Betio, the Americans have managed to secure a beachhead, and establish a base, but progress is slow, the jungle is dense in areas and Japanese forces are dug in. Small bands of Japanese have been raiding and ambushing the American units, making progress slow. The Japanese are ready to fight to the last man if need be and will make the Americans pay in blood for every inch they take...
US losses in Tarawa were close to 6 months losses during Guadalcanal Campaign, but in Tarawa in was in 76 hours!
