this will get updated shortly and tweaked as its a copy of our last game :)

Our rules for uniform and weapons are quite simple,

Please no officer uniforms if you can help it unless you are a squad leader etc and everyone must wear headgear

Japanese - Any WW2 Japanese uniform, navy or infantry - hiki do a great range for some good prices and see below for a link for an easy look-alike for those on a budget - headgear must be worn cap or helmet

US- Marine uniform would be ideal but we will except standard infantry with- marine headgear m1 helmet with cover or at a push a marine hbt cap

Weapons - Any ww2 Rifle or smg can be used and we also allow wooden stocked M14 , ww2 pistols are allowed to be carried but ammo comes out of you limits

Please note this is a lower Ammo limit game, though we won't stop SMGS we would prefer a nice healthy amount of rifles :) (rifles with low ammo mags or no mags ie kar98s mosins etc will be allowed to reload in the field when not under fire)

No support weapons, Bar with standard ammo is fine

we are happy for people to try their best to look the part and that's great but what we don't want is folks thinking they can just change their hat and use their Russian loadout etc , any problems just ask we may have some loan kit if needed :)

NO HPA GUNS AT ALL

NO real swords, knives or bayonets in game, though rubber /LARP knives are ok and for Officers and NCO's approved swords may be used

cheap Japanese cap search http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... p&_sacat=0

Japanese cheap belt set - thought there are others on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WWII-ARISAKA- ... SwEK9UD22D

Hiki Shop - has great selection of Japanese gear and some marine but never seen the marine items http://www.hikishop.com/wwii-japan-army-c-3_13.html

I've just had a look on ebay and there is one Swedish M26 helmet for sale at a good size 58-59 cm. They don't come up very often, but they are a very good lookalike for a jap helmet. I bought one, cut yourself a star out of a bit of ali sheet, 35mm point to point, glue it on the helmet and get a tester pot from Homebase of whatever you think is the closest match ( search ww2 Japanese helmet) and paint it. I also bought a jap helmet cover from Hiki and shirt pocket rank badge. Shirt and trousers were charity shop buys. Price is about half what you pay for a Chinese repro.

Get the full sleeve one. The type 98 summer tunic is pretty good and full sleeved

Yes, get a Type 98 jacket, they are rather smart.

For a shirt I just wear my aertex KD shirt, which looks pretty Japanese, but any old khaki shirt would do.

I think if it is just the shirt, it is above the left breast pocket. I got one of the button insignia from hiki which buttons onto either the shirt or jacket pocket.

If you are wearing a rolled rain cape or ground sheet over your left shoulder, no-one can see it anyway!

Which with our lovely summer weather may not be a bad shout. I did see that they had collar tabs at Hiki?

The hikishop ones are pretty good and very cheap. Ideally the collar tab ranks would be better on Japanese kit but the chest rank is also good by itself. They also turn up ebay but you'd have to sew it to a wool backing then sew it onto your uniform

Ralph

I use any excuse to get my plash out, the most waterproof cotton rain cape I've ever owned. God knows they treat them with.

Also handy for Vasily Zaitsev impressions.

Am I okay to use a Kar98 in lieu of a Springfield?
I had intended to pick up a trench gun abut life has gotten in the way

that looks like a malayan uniform, not japanese, but it is similar to work uniforms worn on tarawa.

the armed forces on tarawa was made up entirely of japanese naval troops, both special naval landing forces and sailors sent to shore to guard the island and work on fortifications.

here are what the snlf at this time would have looked like. they wore both the early round ratings and post 1942 ratings as well.

and here is what workers and auxiliary troops from the navy would have dressed like on tarawa

most of this stuff is available on hikishop for a good price with the exception of the trimmed naval undershirt, but a british navy undershirt makes a good stand-in and a button up khaki shirt will play the part fine, as they wore those underneath tunics around the time of tarawa.

I'd originally thought it was part of the surrendered IJA that was rearmed to defend until the colonial powers arrived, like in Indochina.
Just thought it might be useful to someone who wasn't sure if they could do Japanese impression at the last minute
