....and then there were four
Right what do we know ?
1 We have booked a date -2nd March at Tuddenham to use Josh's site
2 It will be a CiA game not a Gunman extravaganzbolloxs.
3 Tuddenham is feckin miles away in Suffolk 20 miles East of Cambridge
4 Tuddenham is about 80 acress, some WWII building and some woodland and it's in a L shape
5 We can do overnight camping unmolested ofr the social aspect
6 None of us have been there
7 We have no fixed game in mind .
So we have the when and where
But no who or what .
My pers idea was the Eagle has Landed , US/UK/German all chasing Churchill around the site.
Do it as a lite , 40 players max (+ assorted mates)
Other ideas is to go for a Partisan thing to test the water .
Anyway post ideas here, it would be nice to announce the next game before DDay IMHO .
I like the idea of an Eagle has Landed game, but I don't think the site has complex or complete enough buildings for this. You'd need a site like Sennybridge for that sort of thing.
As it has a mix of buildings/ruins and woodland we could do a post D-Day bombed town Allied push/German counter attack CiA lite type game. Scenarios include (off the top of my head):
Anzio
Cherbourg
Bocage/Caen
Falaise Pocket (depending on Speirs game)
Siegfried Line
What would be nice is if we could get some decent size canvas for everyone to get together for the social if it's an overnight. Any chance we could get this from Josh perhaps?
We really need to have a look at the site. I could take part in this if it were over a weekend. Perhaps it's something we can do in the new year.
I do really like the idea of basing the game around the theme of a film or computer game as people can relate to that more I feel and can get into the suspension-of-disbelief spirit a little more.
The use of Dutch resistance worked VERY well too, so maybe we could incorporate that again.

Post D-Day gets my vote. What was the name of the Normandy breakout - Operation Goodwood?
A trip up there in the new year sounds like a plan to me.
Thinking about it, it would follow on nicely from the whole D-Day thing as well. If we can choose a town/area that was assaulted by both Brit and Yank troops - and preferably one that has been seen on TV/Film, then all the better.
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Operation Cobra (U.S. troops break out west of St. Lô).
Operation Dragoon (Allied invasion of Southern France). (Invasion?? Don't they mean liberation!?)
Apparently Goodwood was the armoured assault that started two days before Cobra.
Cobra might be a nice idea, with the Germans counter attacking into 'St Lô' first and an Allied push back. We could have Goodwood two days before, just for Oddball. Plus Cobra is a good name for marketing.
If Goodwood is just for Oddball, then tell him its happening at a site at least 400 miles away

Map of the site. The building occupy one end and the other end is only lightly wooded, in March there won't be any growth for cover as it's all deciduous.
Would work for a St Lo game.
Yes, like the idea of battles progressing from D-Day as previously discussed a while back.
Restricted numbers is good and would work well given the shape of the site. A rolling game from the hill into the town and pushing round the site should be do-able, can 'force' progression (and maximise site utilisation) by Axis having to fall back to resupply.
Blatfest to start with taking the artillery out (the bunker), then slower & more methodical taking the town and take the battle toward the big sheds in the safezone direction. Turn the battle through 90 degrees for the afternoon battling toward the woods.
Very interesting region topographically, been perusing the aerials for ages!
Sounds good, but suggest a site visit in the next month or so to confirm the game and then get advertising out. We could leave it till after Xmas , but at the moment would prefer after DDay .
Like the sound of Cobra although know little of the battle , would it make it Yanks only ?( might look like a kick in the pants to the new Brit forces assembling )
Goodwood was a bit of a fuck up AFAIK , Monty's big push out of Caen that floundered, to go with the big push at Market Garden that floundered ...yes there was a pattern by Dec 1944 . I'll tell you a tale I heard from 2 brit vets 20 years ago one day .
Punch ups that involved both brit and yank troops in NW Europe, off the top of my head:
Falaise Gap
Op Varsity
Op Market Garden
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Here's a thought... as PBI are running 'Operation Varsity', a British-only v Axis game next spring there is no reason why we can't run a US-only v Axis game to even things up.
Both will be restricted players numbers so we won't have a problem with Axis for both games.
Ipso facto Operation Cobra is a go-er?
Operation Varsity as a Brit only bash? considering the Yanks were there as well, expect some "comments" from certain quarters.
Personally, a Yank Vs German bash would be easier to find a battle for than a yank/brit/german bash.

I assumed PBI games are Brit-centric... by the by really. If we are moving on from D-Day then why not US only & St Lo as the focus? We have yet to do a US only game...
Might be worth checking with the PBI crew, but I am game for a Yank only Cobra. Be good to give the septics a chance ot wear their kit . Aslo note that the germans were mainly SS and Pzr troops employed as infantry - a good mix for our punters.
Having had a quick wiki , I recall we stayed in the area on holiday 18 months ago .
Finally say , what are the iconic bits of the battle , the set pieces or well know parts we can take and incorporate, rather than just a signpost saying St Lo this way ?
Need to decide on a price with Josh as well .
Operation Cobra - the breakout from Normandy
I like it! Considering that Arnhem was Brits only on the Allied side, a Yanks only is playing fair as far as i'm concerned.

I'll go for Cobra "Yanks only vs Kraut " although suggest a chat with the other guys to explain it's not intended as a "piss off" PBI thing .
In fact, it should come across as a "complimentary to the game you're organising" type comment...

Oh yes, absolutely. I fully meant as a partner to the PBI game and not in spite of - everyone can play at one or the other, if not both.
My thinking was more that with those two trying ot get people ot get some Brit kit, us announcing a Yanks only game might look a bit odd .
Anyhoo straight after DDay lets launch the publicity .
We saying 40 players plus us and few mates again ?
Also camping and jollies the night before ?
