The scenario doesn't take place at Hamilton, but Eaglesham. The local HG that dealt with this episode was Busby Home Guard Company of 3 Battalion Home Guard so I'm going to suggest that REN 3 is correct, unless anyone knows better!

excellent... I was unable to find exactly which HG batt was involved. REN was one of the other options!

Them's not the guys. 'Caught up in' is a bit of an odd phrase, local to them certainly, William might even have been called over but they weren't the chaps on the spot. Well that's not what the page says and it does say (in the white section) that the chap the page is about was one of the few who arrested him. I've not seen anything to directly discount this.

Yes, they did take it to the local HG HQ which was 3rd battalion. That's mentioned in several places. But I've seen nothing to say it was 3rd batt who arrested him.

eg: "He was arrested at the farmhouse by members of the Home Guard, who then took him to the nearby Busby Home Guard Company HQ, where he again identified himself as Hauptmann Albert Horn." Doesn't say which battalion (or even county for that matter)

Having said that considering the 1st batt was based at Greenock... and that's quite a way away, it does seem very odd that these chaps were the ones in the area at the time.

So it could be that William lied to his kids or that they have got it all wrong... The fact he is mentioned in the white bit as definitely being there would have to mean the former...

Quite, as yes, that's the photo. The local HG bods/police would have been on the scene first (may not even have been in uniform!) and control passed up the chain so higher-ups would have eventually showed up. But this is a localised real-time scenario and centres around the crash site so the local HG for this game's purposes are most appropriate. You have to catch Hess before summoning anyone!

BTW, "Robert Williamson, the tin-hatted local constable, had arrived, as had a boozy Home Guard company commander, Mr Clarke" were mentioned by Irving

Mont'y Locker does custom patches, I don't think you would find them 'off the shelf'.

Yes, once people who want to do this are known a mass order to monty may be the best thing to do.

Though note that monty's are woven, and I understand HG had printed patches, not woven!

What the pics do confirm is the headgear when not wearing helmets...

FS caps with the cap badge on with no backing for the ORs. Tam-o-shanters for the officers.

TBH a Home Guard shoulder flash or armband is more than sufficient and no less accurate/authentic than the full monty. Gawd knows what the level of issue was at this date and at this exact location and a printed armband saves a lot of grief (especially if it is a chilly weekend and you are wearing greatcoats)!

If Divpatch do printed then they look like the place to get 'em!

Best check first, it says the shoulder titles are printed but no word I could see on the others - I'd guess they are made on order since there are so many (and limited demand), in which case they will be embroidered. Meh, that 'bible' illustration shows embroidered on serge!

The list also says "printed homeguard county patches" on one item.

Yeah, embroidered on serge for some, but REN 3 is printed.

If you want correct HG patches try a pm to Scallywag on WWii forum. His are spot on for the font and colour.
The Div Patch ones are not terrible just the wrong colour, should be Navy Blue not black and the font seems a bit 'thick', perhaps the 'bold' or 'Black' version was used.
Not critical for your game just passing on info.

Yeah the fonts don't look quite right at all. The proper ones are almost italic in some ways.
