Heh, same rules for pitchforks as bayonets - real steel not allowed in gameplay. Frankly, I'm not sure of the usefulness of non-barrelled weapons, other than in prisoner control. I fear the Germans will discover the truth of the Home Guard's lack of issued equipment for defence. Should this get back to High Command will this make an invasion more likely?

Too right, the shame of an elite Fallschirmjaeger skewered on farm implement would be too much to bear. Reassignment to a mine clearing detachment on the Eastern Front I think.

Home Guard unit has been supplied with 37 pattern webbing, there is no requirement to source leather pouches/anklets etc
Though no requirement, understandably due to making the game viable for those without the more older or alternative webbing sets/items; What leather pouches would be preferred for the home-guard look? Would '03patt or '14patt' cartridge pouches be useable/desired? Or '39patt' (leather '37patt') bren/universal pouches?

Heh... the correct pouches are the BAR pouches as sold by SoF. These are like short utility pouches and should slide on to an '03 pattern leather belt. Standard 37 pattern cross straps are used and these attach to the '03 belt at the back using a thing called a belt slider that has two 37 pat buckles on it.
If longer mags are needed then a single '39 pattern utility pouch can be used along with one BAR pouch.
The frog needed is the '39 pattern leather one. (SoF's repro is the correct design, but completely the wrong texture in the leather)
Water bottle should go in an '03 pattern leather cradle, though note that the HG version of this did not have the canvas part in the sling as the one that SoF sells.
There was also a HG haversack, this was slung over the shoulder and was made of tan groundsheet material. SoF make a good repro of this.
I personally have made the frog, slider and water bottle cradle (all more accurate than SoF's). I can also make '03 belts, but have no buckles. I am going to be buying a pair of SoF BAR pouches and HG haversack. I picked up an original 39 pattern utility pouch for a tenner at Malvern.
Also of course there's leather anklets. These are identical in design to webbing ones. I picked up an original pair a year or so ago...

The all depend on the date and condition. These prices are from what I've been researching myself over the last year (I've been aquiring one to complete my Great Grandfathers WW1 MGC uniform);
Pre-WW1 ones go for about £80-£180
WW1 dated go for about £60-£100
Interwar dated go for about £30-£70
WW2 dated go for about £25-£80
All variance is dependant on condition.

Period photos of him in his Pith helmet in Egypt show him as thus, at the time he was a Sgt.
That's one of the things I initially wondered about; but then again, though manning a HMG, each man still carried a rifle.
Same with the 5 infantry Machine gun regiments in WW2, every man had his own personal weapon, as well as the supplied MMG.

Interesting stuff... a picture like that can't lie... as long as you're trying to re-enact exactly what is in the picture! 
When you initially posted your comment I had a look for pictures of MGC troops and couldn't find any with '03 bandoliers.... hence my question!
You see my Great Uncle was supposedly a machine gunner, but we have no more info than that and certainly no pictures. We know which regiments he was in though (Royal Scots amongst others)

Yeah, it's interesting how much regimental movement there was. My Great Grandfather, Reginal Russell, was born and bred in West Hertfordshire, but started off in the Hampshire Regiment (if i recall corretly) and then spent some time in (I think) East Sussex Regiment, before being posted to the MGC. In the infantry, he was gassed in France, and then returned to France with the MGC and then moved to Egypt.

A random question about the camping, if I may. Are we using military only tents in the field like Jedburgh or is there a plastic camping area we come back to after the game? Also will there be camping available for the Friday night. Is there mains water and khazis or is it bring your own water and a spade to dig a hole?
The camp won't form any part of the scenario so I'd have thought plastic tents are OK, although a period looking camp looks fab and gets you into the zone. (In contrast, our to-be-announced July game will be period looking tentage, as that will be in-game.)
We are negotiating for camping Friday night but TBC at the moment.
This isn't an airsoft site, its a farm and farmland in a rural location so there won't be toilet facilities but we will see if we can find a potable water supply. Until that is confirmed I'd work on the assumption that like most events, a 5 litre water bottle should be added to your kit list.

Because things were a bit more fluid that many people would like to think. You see all sorts of exceptions to the 'rule' of issued kit.
To be honest Steve, it seemed perfectly reasonable for him to have one... so I thought I'd look and see what I could see... but then couldn't find any pictures of MG crew with them!
