EXTRA INFO:
This shirt has a faded "R-I 506" inked onto the collar. As far as I can tell this was the unit designation for the 506th Rifle Infantry prior to June 1942 when it was integrated into the 101st airborne division and was then known as the "P.I.R. 506 or 506 P.I.R." the absence of the P would indicate this as an early war shirt from between 1939 and 1942.
OR
it's someone with the initials R.I. from the 506th but the standards for marking of personal equipment kind of goes against this. i.e. no serial no. etc.
ITEM: Original EM's shirt with shortened sleeves and para silk sweatband

EXTRA INFO:
This shirt has had the sleeves cropped and hemmed to a short sleeve length. Also it has had a small strip of parachute silk sewn into the neck to act as a sweatband. Seems like a good idea if you're wearing it under a jump jacket or anything else in the summer. The silk seems to say to me that this was a para shirt or at least someone who was around in time to pick up a discarded chute and the short sleeves say somewhere hot in the ETO (Southern Italy, North Africa?)
Now £35 each. Obo.
Swaps for all items considered.
