Hi Guys
I spotted some 101st/82nd re in actors at war and peace wearing jump suits that had been camouflaged with what appeared to be spray paint and their names had been stencilled onto their jump jackets
Can anyone tell me if this was a common thing and does anyone have any pictures I can use for reference?
Cheers
Paul

101st and 82nd. There are some mannequins in one of the Normandy museums with original painted up uniforms.
There were only 200 of them at D-Day so this sort of impression is the rarer variety.

On a similar subject, just out of interest, you'll probably know this HS, the stenciling of surname on to the right breast of you jumpsuit and on to Musette bag...was this something done often or am I whistling up the wrong tree.

I could be wrong, maybe it was left. Never the less, they did stencil their names on to their uniforms?

Some did, see the link.

Dick Winters and quite a few of his boys stencilled their names on their kit. If you ever go to Carentan, check out Dead Mans Corner museum - they have a bunch of stuff from the BoB boys including the jacket that Winters wore throughout the Normandy campaign along with his web kit and musette bag.
Moved to correct forum...
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
most of us airborne had there names stenciled on there jump suits when they where issued to them on camps, and when the war came some still used there issued jump suits and some had replaced them,so they didn't have there names on.

Be even-handed and have a hoot at the Germans as well then, not seen a fallshy with a parachute either, nor anyone from a Panzer div with a tank come to that, or Brit Airlanding with a Horsa even - no wait, we did have one at Husky ... "Link arms - feet up"
Mark knows what I'm like, I'll carry everything going. I'd carry the parachute too initially but they're so damned expensive. Next big thing to find is a B4 Mae West.
