need a bit of help with 5th marines kit, do i wear gaiters with the kit?

most pictures i can source show the guys without gaiters on, but some show them with them on, is it an option whether i want too or not, or were they just not issued?

also, with badging up, is the case of get the right patch and pop it on the upper left arm, or did they wear insignia at all, because once again i can't really see from my sources, cheers, Tom.

Now a 'namsofter. I have an M72 L.A.W. for sale for 110 posted, PM if interested.

Yes, often the leggings were worn underneath the trousers... the main reason for doing so in tropical conditions would be that it allowed the air to circulate to their nether regions. :)

This is from knowledge of Merril's Marauders, not USMC though!

I was also under the impression that alot of the time leggings were worn under the trousers.

I've seen both, leggings were primerily used to offer additional ankle support to the US Roughout boot. In photos where they do not have them on, may have been taken off for comfort. I wear mine underneath my P42s, but with the bottoms turned up.

Also, just in case you didn't know, the Marine gaiters aren't the same as the army ones, they are shorter with only 6 lace hooks instead of the 7/8/9 that the army had. Also the brass hooks didn't seem to be blackened like some of the army ones and the sizing is different. However unless you really inspect them its hard to tell the difference.

Might they be the early war ones, only the Women's ones are very similar! :) hehe
