Hi guys just a quick question, when was the Airborne Garrison Cap badge with the red surround introduced, as i understand this was the late war issue.

Reason i ask is i have an M42 jump uniform, but the Garrison cap i have has the red surround to the badge, is this acceptable, as i dont really want to have to buy another cap or midify the one i bought?

All comments info welcome, thanks Phil

I've consulted one of my books (The GI Collectors Guide) and it says the following about the badge in question:-

Regulation garrison cap insignia for all airborne personnel, authorized spring 1943

I'm sure I've seen it on the cap of a bloke awaiting evacuation to England after D-Day too, I shall have a look for the photo.
