After a number of skirmishes my corcorans are starting to see better days finish wise, i was just wondering what is the best polish to use on them, and any tips for getting a good finish?
Cheers DW
Get some paint stripper, strip of the crap they are coated with and attack them with layer after layer of dark tan and the odd layer of cordovan/oxblood. They will look pants for a while until the layers build up. Dont panic, keep at it. You will then be able to bull your jump boots. You cant do it as they are with that crap on them. It's not a proper tanned finish, it's paint.
Thats the best way to polish them.
You can just slap some dark tan on to cover the skuffs.

Agree with Poacher on this, but with caveats about how to do it without dissolving the stitching. I believe CHThree did a rather nice job on his.
There is a very very nice pair for sale on another forum.
The seller was questioned as to how he got such a great finish and his reply was---
I didnt strip them.. It was one hell of a lot of elbow grease...and a small fortune in polish.
To get them this colour I mixed Oxblood polish with dark tan and this gives them that deep redish brown chestnut colour... but it took a long time..also never use polish that contains parafin..
Alternatively, if you have a Lidl near you, they sell a semi-liquid polish which you sponge on (sponge provided) and let dry. It dries in approx half hour then you can pop another coat on. It leaves them after a few coats with a lovely dark brown/ slightly maroon look and nie and shiny. Best of all I think it's about a quid for one small pot of it. You would probably need to use the full pot the first time you do it to get a good colour but then after that it's just a quick clean and a couple of coats after an event.
I know it seems like a quick fix, but they do look damned good and it saves on the elbow grease.

It's possible, but as soon as you use them the polish wears off pretty quickly, plus you'll find that the painted coating cracks and flakes off leaving a very shoddy finish.
Although its probably the worst thing you can do, but i waited until all the crappy paint stripped off through not polishing before a game, they ended up looking like roughout boots almost, when i polish them, it only takes a few coats of polish to get them gleeming. I woudln't recommend this method, and I have had mine for about 5 years now.
Anyone know a good supplier for elbow grease? I can't find it anywhere and it seems to be useful for a whole range of things.

Just when I thought I'd seen it all...
Cheers for the advice guys, looks like i know what i will be up to when i have a free sunday
I have a pair of the cheap SOF jump boots, does anyone know if they have a similar finish to Corcorans, i.e. do I need to paint stip them?
If they're the repros from SOF the same as mine then they came this horrible maroony-purple colour. I wore them in then cleaned them and got some dark brown polish, I normally put a couple of coats on before each game then clean them and do the same after. They come out a lovely deep brown with a tinge of maroon.

Mine were "genuine" modern corcorans, I went over mine with Nitromors paint stripper, the serious gel stuff from Halfords, and a scraper (make sure you wash them well after) then I dyed the raw leather with saddle dye - I think I used a slighty dark shade but it was all I could get. After that they polish up lovely with a bit of (oo-er) elbow grease! Actually, i just remembered, they're still in the garage covered in mud from "In the Pocket" - god knows if they will recover from that.
My repros stayed in the shed for 2 months following the little dunking incident at Autumn Mist, they were covered in mud, piss wet through, full of pine needles and generally not in a very nice state. Took about an hour to sort them out but they were fine...nice and shiny now ready for Gulch!

Glad to see i'm not the only one who leaves boots muddy for ages after a game, only recently cleaned mine from 'In the Pocket', it was seeing the state they were in once clean that made me start this thread!
