As far as I know it is against the Geneva Convention (chapter IV article 25 and 29) to fire on a medic wearing clear medical insignia(red cross, crescent star of David ect) and treating any wounded
In fact it's classed as a war crime
So in that case the medic should be unarmed
However the Japanese just used the red cross as an aiming point so wasn't worn in the far east
In the modern armed forces medics are armed to protect themselves and their patients
Anyway I'm sure nothing to stop you going armed to an airsoft skirmish as I am sure all the opfor will shoot at you anyway unless the scenario dictates that they cannot
