Like Nige 'oddball' said Oddball was 6th Armored and the infantry were from the 35th Recon Regiment weren't they?
I believe that theres a store that has vast quantities of the Regimental insignia, cloth pathc in stock...I think Webby knows where it is.

Standard line infantry uniform. You could get a better idea about the particular garments from the kit guides listed at the top of the forum. Have a look at Webby's Ranger loadout for the basics.

M1 Helmet, M41 Jacket, (not sure about the trousers, not my area of expertise), M1938 Gaiters, (again not sure about the boots but Roughout boots sounds right), Garand belt or pistol belt with M1936 suspenders...that'd be the basics I guess...

I wouldn't look to Kelly's Heroes for historical accuracy!

Yeah but in fairness it's the Sven Hassel of the US side (folklore wise) and we know how much fun the 27th penal panzers were at games...

Most wear buckle boots and Clint wears a tanker jacket near the end but no reg on the arm as far as I can remember Oddball also wears buckle boots and an A2 flight jacket with 6 th armoured and sergeant stripes.
Most have the 35 white cross on a blue circle patch on their jackets and some on the shirt sleeves I think.

Some buckle boots where reportedly issued to US troops as early as D-Day but only in small numbers, but I imagine Crap game got them the most up to date kit even if some of it wasn’t made until the 1960’s

By that time out in the field the uniform code would not have been as strict as normal particularly with US infantry unlike with the British forces and German.

Here you can see the buckle boots and the trouresrs are bloused over them.
Here is a model of a Armored Recon Officer, Oddball has a Luger though no Colt the flying hat is period WW2 and the goggles were the same for air crew and tankers his trousers may be Herringbone twill.
As you can see Kelly has a tanker jacket no badge I can see, and wool trousers.

Big Joe and many of the others wear M43 jackets.-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

I think the colour of jackets varied quite a bit, if you look at M43 jackets they were all sorts of colours even German jackets were the same. German helmets also varied in colour considerably as some were repainted out in the field to match the locality and whatever paint they could find is what they used.
Some helmets have turned up on Gurnsey in quite vivid greens and in Normandy a yellow like Afrika Corps was used.

I think cloth would be bought off many different manufacturers and more than one company was making jackets so this is bound to be the case during a war. Look here at the colours http://www.vintagetrends.com/Military/t ... ts&ST=M-43

Main page here http://www.vintagetrends.com/Military/s ... ts%2FCoats

M43 details HERE

Even the Sherman tank had many different shapes as they were made by different factories and moulded in sand, which would change anyway.

Same with jeeps the parts seem to bolt to each other but are not exactly the same depending what company made them Ford, GMC, Bantam, and Willys.

Probably right with the VN boots but does not detract from the film, if you dissect any film too much you ruin it for yourself.

Yes he changes his jacket lets say he gets one from the tank crews :good:
They were a popular jacket to use especially if it was getting colder, after months in the field there would be a mix of different clothing in use.
Not having a badge on your sleeve telling people exactly what unit you are with could be a good idea if you are robbing a bank

Here is a pic you won't find in the film.-- attachment is not available --
